Anyone know if the little known and perhaps only Spanish restaurant  on Thepprasit Road ( just up from the gas station and on the other side ) is still open?  I fancy a paella !

I doubt it but Don Pepe's in Soi Diana is still going.

Thanks for the correction by Jim Blue about the very old Spanish place on Thepprasit which I have never been to. 

I have been to Pepe's several times and it's been quite good, but not lately as I find it too expensive so I can't vouch for it's current quality.

I did assume that old place was gone because they just seem totally invisible on online radar.

It didn't seem logical to me that a place like that could have made it through Covid and no publicity when so many places did close during that period (on top of the normal high rate of restaurant failures -- tough business).

To Pineapple Man -- there is no need to insult anyone here for such matters, especially in this case where I said I doubt it. I didn't say I know it's closed.

But I get it. Experience with you and your trolling behavior over many years has shown that you have a personal vendetta going on. Pretty messed up but if that makes you happy. Enjoy.

I think replying that "I doubt it" to whether a restaurant, that you know nothing about, is open or not, is pretty insulting to the owner of this wonderful restaurant.

And lets be honest, you have a past record of such behaviour.

Doubling down on the over the top insults and unfounded accusations. In the real world not the fever dream of your twisted vendetta casually saying I doubt it on an internet forum is merely an expression of a casual subjective impression. To add the discussion of the place prompted information about the place Valencia restaurant still being in business. Great! If you want to be productive instead of acting like a vindictive vicious forum sniper perhaps you could post a review of their food as you seem to have indicated you know about it. But you won't do that will you. That wouldn't serve your vendetta to actually add value to this topic.

I posted a review of Valencia 15+/- years ago. Food was excellent, exuberant cook / owner was offensive to his family and customers.

Being Spanish, I can confirm that Don Pepe's seafood paella is very tasty and I have eaten it there several times.

The only downside is that they make it Thai style, spicy and with overcooked and mushy rice.

I spoke to the owner about this and he told me that they do it that way on purpose because in Thailand customers expect spicy food.

Good times!

Soon after I found my favorite pad krapow in town (for my taste) I have now found my favorite PIZZA in town (for my taste). 

Since I haven't had such a favorite that's still open, I've been eating less pizza.

But now I'm in PIZZA love again!

Before this my local ideal was at the long closed Pizza Arte on Tappraya road which (to my taste) did amazing Neopolitan style pizza.

My new PIZZA love does a similar style.

For me the crust is where it's at as most important component and this new place crust both tastes fantastic and has the expected very chewy texture. Some char on the sides and bottom but probably a bit less than my ideal. 

The crust was so incredibly good I wanted to eat it all (meaning the pizza serves more or you get leftovers). 

Normally I leave a lot of the crust.

As typical of Neopolitan style, toppings are not overloaded.

I had the sausage and Italian broccoli leaves with pecorino cheese option which has no tomato sauce so I can't speak for that part, but the toppings were very delicious.

They present as an authentic, gourmet, rather upscale place.

I only did a Grab from them so I can't speak for the decor or rest of the menu.

Only the one pizza which indicates to me that I will probably love all their pizzas. Plus they also have calzone and pizza sandwiches.

About pizza.

If to be delivered, you want it to be as nearby as possible.

I think Al Fiore is a place worth travelling far to get to.

However, I reckon there are other places in town doing a similar Neopolitan style that are also good, but would never order a pizza delivery from very far.

Some types of food travel OK from afar even if you need to microwave a bit.

But not pizza or fried food.

If you eat pizza regularly, buy a "toaster" oven. Reheats and crisps up perfectly even overnight or after days.

Does anyone know what happened to Sue's Place Mexican Restaurant on Soi 13/4? Has it moved, or gone for good?  The food there was good.

 

Can members suggest some other Mexican restaurants in Central Pattaya?

No but I'm looking forward to trying the soon to be opened Buenos restaurant in Jomtien Complex which is promoting as being "authentic" and looking a a picture of their decor at least LOOKS like it will be.

Some might remember the SHA XIAN SNACKS type of casual Chinese restaurant which was thriving on 2nd road north of Klang until Covid hit which clearly led to its untimely demise.

In case you don't know SHA XIAN SNACKS is a sort of anarchic international chain out of China of course, presumably with many copy cats.

It's known for lower cost, casual, everyday dishes focusing on their regional style.

They have never presented as selling gourmet level food.

Anyway I did like the old place.

I found a new place doing this style of food also on 2nd road, but this time a short distance north of Pattaya Tai on the away from the beach side.

Can't say that the sign has a name but if you find a small Chinese restaurant at the described location, that's the place.

This place in no way imaginable caters to non-Chinese speakers.

Rather I felt I was being actively DISCOURAGED.

The menu is in Chinese and the staff had almost no patience as I was trying to google translate their menu. Just standing there looking annoyed.

Such behavior doesn't deter me, but eventually i was offered a smart phone with pictures of food but also no English and I didn't like that because I didn't want to accidentally order a dish of stir fried anuses or some such delicacy. 

Possible the most popular dish from this not really a chain are the peanut butter dishes, noodles or dumplings.

But coincidentally I had had a similar dish for lunch and didn't want that for dinner. I presume that they would have it.

Eventually I figured out the places was a sort of SHA XIAN SNACKS type of place and I got confirmation of that as well.

So then I just found a random online menu of another similar menu place with English and quickly found a few things to order showing the Chinese part.

It wasn't an ideal order as I was rushed, but I was a little surprised that the food was quite good. Why? Because this time and a prior time I had stopped in to inquire the place had ZERO customers! The old place was always packed mostly with Chinese people but that place was much more accessible to non-Chinese.

So I got beef noodle soup and wontons with seaweed soup even though I didn't realize the wonton dish was going to also be a soup.  Total cost with water about 270.

By the end of my meal as I had not once complained about anything and happily enjoyed the food, I felt the staff had warmed up to me/

I enjoyed both dishes enough to want to go back and try to order better next time.

I think I can do that because now I have a way that will probably help with that, which I'm sharing now.

There is new Mexican in town!

Buenos in the Jomtien Complex (gay nightlife area).

Not open for lunch but open late, they are in the soft opening phase.

It appears to be a very promising place going for more of an "authentic" experience than usual. 

No, I haven't been yet. I usually try to avoid very new places getting their sea legs.

 

But some of you may be interested in this free sample party.
I'm assuming they're going to want you to buy a drink or two though.

Did you have a review? There are plenty of great reviews and whatnot in the thead. 

 

I'm not a fan of JT, but I am a fan of this thread. I like Mexican, and I was happy to see the flyer.
