Thanks for the update.  I'll give it a few weeks to settle in and I'll go and try it.

I am still surprised there is no Mexican restaurant in Central Pattaya.  There used to be about four of them.

Cholos have recently opened by Dolphin Circus on Naklua/Pattaya Road. They describe themselves as the best Mexican place in Bangkok.

They already have 70 reviews and are very highly rated, scoring an average of 4.9 out of 5.

Google Maps shows all reviews along with the menu and photos.

It's not quite central Pattaya but is 5-10 minutes away on a Baht bus.

I ate recently at VN Garden, on Pratumnak Hill, at the back of VN Residence.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/3MAkyRtmwA3VEK1DA

The food is excellent (Western and Thai) and not expensive. I have never seen such well-presented dishes... the chef is quite an artist. Recommended.

It's only small... 4 tables of 4 and one table of 6, so booking is advisable.

Sometimes meals in Pattaya can surprise us in good ways.

Did a Grab delivery of Chicken Fajitas from Cafe Blu.

Fajitas are a Tex Mex dish gone international with origin roots in a Northern Mexican dish but not really found in Mexico. (Like burritos, though basic burritos are a thing in Northern Mexico.)

Cafe Blu is the casual but still gourmet sister of Cafe des Amis, one of the top fancy schmancy joints in town.

So what's the surprise?

Without a doubt the best Fajitas I've ever had in Thailand and would compete with back in the US as well except traditionally the more typical meat for fajitas is grilled steak rather than chicken.

The treatment of the chicken was the standout served in a looser very spicy red sauce (requested very spicy) with strips of onions and green peppers along with the expected side dishes. Even some decent guacamole though a small portion. I did miss the lack of a bean side though.

Not really like a strictly Tex Mex fajitas from a Mexican restaurant in the US, but more like a gourmet chef's interpretation of that dish. Which was quite wonderful.

The price in the mid 300's.

Going down memory lane, one of the best feeds of my life was a fairly close to fajitas style dish in Acapulco which specialized in grilled baby goat (cabrito asado).

A large portion of that meat on a plate, with side tortillas, beans, and assorted salsas. Heaven for the eater. Yeah, poor baby goats though!

Time to get this one going again.

Angry Sardar (Indian)

Angry Sardar is a well regarded Punjabi (Northern Indian) restaurant originated in Goa (South India) now expanded to Mumbai and Pattaya.

Aren't we lucky?

Anyway it's not the cheapest place by any means but they have some dishes they are famous for such as

Angry Sardar chicken

Butter chicken (the classic)

Dal Makhani (the classic)

I noticed a dish called Animal Style chicken.

Intriguing but no thanks.

It's located in South Pattaya. Here's their FB:

(9) Facebook

I did check it out in person and found it to be a somewhat luxurious party time place featuring cocktails and such (but empty at the hour I visited).

I wasn't feeling the vibe and realized eating there would be very expensive to eat in for a full meal when really the only thing I was really curious about what the Angry Sarder Chicken.

So I didn't but eventually I did try it on Grab.

Got the Angry Sardar Chicken and a fancy cheese garlic chili naan.

Normally I would want a dal with that but they make you buy a 400 baht rice and dal package to get dal, so nope.

Anyway, as you can see in the picture this isn't your everyday Indian style chicken.

Notice the char!

Notice the thick crust!

Imagine the flavor!

Yes, it was really that good. It didn't taste like any other Indian chicken I ever had before. It was in a way closer to Jamaican jerk chicken, and a very good jerk chicken at that. Of course the flavors aren't the same. Tender and juicy meat inside the crust as well. The chicken comes with some very good onion chutney type thing and mint yogurt. Spicy of course as you would expect for an Angry dish but nothing too challenging for me anyway.

I got lucky and the naan I ordered paired with the chicken beautifully.

OK, I'm sold. Expensive or not, I'll be wanting more of that stuff in the future and I may even try some of their other dishes such as the classic butter chicken.

So no need to GO to GOA to try this chicken.

You might say chicken and chicken but arguably you're comparing apples and oranges.

I posted about this place before on the old now closed Pattaya hit and run thread and it took me this long to try it (by Grab). Location is on Pattaya Tai near the corner of 2nd road.

I was nudged by a video from the food obsessed legendary youtube vlogger Sanctioned Ivan who has spent a long time living in Turkiye and declared the classic Adana Kebab at Istanbul restaurant as flippin' fantastic.

Instead of a kebab I opted for an intriguing dish I had never heard of before even during my own visit to Turkiye. No, not the Imam Fainted (also has eggplant). I had that there and it was way too oily of a dish for me so I get why the Iman fainted.

Rather --

Hünkar Beğendi

The Sultan's Delight!

This is a rich dish of stewed red meat in a seasoned tomato sauce served over a decadent base of smoked eggplant puree and cheese.

Traditionally it's lamb meat but not sure if it was lamb or beef in this case.

To make a real feast I added stuffed grape leaves and their incredibly good pita bread.

The surprise here was the cheese element in the puree.
As the Sultan said -- delightful.

Ridiculously good. I'll be back for more menu choices.

Ao Na Kluea Seafood:

Me and 3 Thai relatives went today at about 1.15. Lots of people in on their lunch break from work, the place almost emptied before 2.

The place sits above the sea on the coast Rd going North past Naklua Fish Market.

A menu in Thai and English with a big range of fresh fish, squid and shellfish. I had chicken fried rice which was top notch.

Well, they've had a "Taco Tuesdays" offer for dog's years offering Tex Mex style tacos.

Personally I don't like them much but have always liked their "wet" burrito Supreme with steak (be sure to ask for ranchero sauce on the side to make it wet!) which is always on the menu.

Well there's some good news about this.

Now on Taco Tuesdays they've added a much more authentic Mexican style taco option.

It's birria pork, served with two side spicy sauces, and also a container of typical Mexican add ons -- chopped onion, cilantro. Soft flour tortillas only option. Of course in Mexico it would be soft corn but still good. Dudes -- this is the real deal taste of Mexico -- I kid you not. It's 225 baht such a deal and I add a side of refried beans and pimp it up at home with Chipotle hot sauce and sliced avocados. Order it deconstructed.

Posting this is a bit selfish. I want to make sure they keep it on the menu so if there's a good demand they likely will!

Of course if you're looking for Tex Mex style, don't order the birria.

I was so pleased to see Chipotle hot sauce for sale at Tops at a reasonable price.  Only regular and chipotle sadly,  however, I fear that supply is coming to an end as my local tops has only a few more bottles on the shelves.  Franks dissapeared for awhile but is now back.

Sorry Topt, but I don't recall exactly. The whole amount was 2K Baht, tip included, but there was a lot of fresh seafood. I think the chicken fried rice was less than 200B. It was a big portion and was excellent. The place is very popular.

I may be back there tomorrow; if so I will take a pic of the bill and post on here.

Ao Naklua, is a lot better nowadays, than it used to be, but not as good as a few nearby restaurants IMO.

But any of these Naklua seafood places, are better than anything else in the area, especially the ones on Jomtien Beach Road, like Poo Pen.

Get your HOT TAMALES while they last!

Order this Saturday only until 8:00 PM.

It's possible they might still have some Sunday but probably not.

Very rarely hotmeals2you.com offers tamales. My guess is about once every two or three months. I'm not aware of any other local restaurant that sells them at all.

These are REAL Mexican style tamales.

The platter at 315 includes two ample shreddded pork tamals topped with melted cheese and swimming in a lovely red sauce, Mexican rice, refried beans, and sides of sour cream and cheese.

What's great is that their tamales have improved over the years. They used to be very dry and I don't recall that there was even any sauce.

I did pimp mine up at home with chipotle hot sauce and slice avocado but it would still be good without those.

Along with the regular very good Tuesday offering of pork birria tacos.

Maybe just maybe they will now have them every Tuesday?

Try Cholos in North Pattaya.

Will post more later.

But I do like their tacos better than their burritos,

Especially the Baja Fish tacos.

Best salsas I've had in Thailand.

Tinnies: Went yesterday for an early lunch.

On Thappraya Rd, Jomtien, about half way down the section going down to the beach, on the right hand side.

Big selection of Aussie/Brit pies along with sets to go with your pie of choice.

My pie was steak and kidney at 175 Baht and I chose the set of chips, garden peas and a jug of gravy at an extra 100 Baht. Some will think that a bit pricey but the high quality of the pie made it value for money.

Fresh and frozen pies, pasties and sausage rolls are available for sale as are cakes, biscuits and fruit pies.

They do deliveries all over Thailand as well as locally. Google maps, Facebook and other social media give good coverage of the whole product range with pricing.

It was rather quiet yesterday at around 10am but I imagine it could get a bit lively when the upcoming Ashes Tests starts.

Highly reccommended.

THE LEAF KITCHEN

!!!!!Myanmar!!!!! and Thai Food in Jomtien

Facebook

Open daily at 5 PM to late except Monday

Prices moderate and great value for the quality

Main dishes 200ish

Noodles/Salads 100ish

A bit hard to find the first time, as it's In an internal strip mall type of thing off Jomtien 2nd road fairly close to Tappraya

An easy way to locate is to find the Bench haircut place (excellent BTW) and it's right across from that.

I'm just going to post a starting TEASER now and follow up with a lot more detail

Suffice it to say, however, that in my view THE LEAF KITCHEN is in the top tier of my personal "finds" this year (and I did find it randomly).

If like me you've been hoping there would not only be a Myanmar Food restaurant in town but an actually really good one, your dreams are now realized.

The Thai food is excellent as well but clearly the distinction of being such a rarity here, a Myanmar food place, is the headline level stuff.

Like I said, more detail later. If you don't know anything about Myanmar food, don't worry, it's very accessible and the English-speaking staff there will help you select menu items to your taste

I will recommend one specific dish in particular -- the stir fried sour green roselle leaves with banboo shoots and shrimp with turmeric dominant spices. I am crazy about those leaves but the problem is they are not sold anywhere in Pattaya (I checked and the restaurant confirmed). They are massively popular with Myanmar people. They get them from Bangkok.  You can also choose the leaves with pork instead of shrimp and in more of watery curry but I recommend the stir fried style.

Stay tuned for much more detail, sooner or later.

More about The Leaf Restaurant Jomtien.

There is no permanent sign on Jomtien 2nd road but I think they often put a sign board out after they open at night 5 pm. They may have posted specials written there.

They have a young Thai chef who learned his craft at a local high end French restaurant. There are of course Myanmar people behind those recipes.

My impression is that they consider their sous vide dishes as their signature ones. As I recently learned that is a very slow cooking method that brings out the flavors in food. I tried their sous vide pork dish which was delectable pieces of pork wrapped in bacon and it was indeed delicious. I get why they are proud of their sous vide dishes  However for me the best feature of their menu is the dishes that use sour green Roselle leaves. But that's me. I got addicted to their flavor when I lived in the US.

Their complete menu is on their FB page

https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61580439043423&name=xhp_nt__fb__action__open_user

I am posting a few of their menu pages here that feature their sous vide dishes.

I will add that as its a small and new restaurant there will be some no have dishes.  For example the famous Myanmar fish soup Mohinga is a special order thing for now as its meant to be a breakfast food and they open at 5 pm.
