The Thai government is ramping up efforts to bolster international confidence in the country following March 28 earthquake, according to Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

 

During her remarks at the Thailand Investment and Expat Services Centre opening ceremony in One Bangkok, the Thai premier addressed concerns about the collapse of the newly constructed State Audit Office building.

 

The 38 year old PM She explained that the collapse resulted from technical errors specific to that building, assuring the international community that other structures in Bangkok meet earthquake-resistant standards and are not at risk.

 

She further emphasised Thailand’s dedication to restoring its image and public trust, noting that a detailed investigation into the approval, design, and construction materials of the project is currently underway.

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, along with Industry Minister Akanat Promphan, are set to examine the construction materials used. Samples have already been collected for analysis, and preliminary results are expected within two or three days.

 

 

 

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt reported that the capital’s situation has nearly stabilised. He mentioned that normal traffic has resumed throughout Bangkok, including major expressways and metro lines, though minor congestion persists near the collapsed building site in Chatuchak district and areas with crane removal operations in Bang Sue district.

 

Building inspections are ongoing in the city, with over 13,000 reports received. While most cases involve minor wall cracks, two buildings have been declared unsafe, impacting approximately 2,000 residents.

 

Temporary accommodations have been arranged for those affected, with support from corporate and government bodies.

 

Italian-Thai Development PCL (ITD), part of the ITD-CREC joint venture responsible for the collapsed building, expressed deep regret over the incident.

 

The company committed to full cooperation with investigators and compensation for the families of victims and those injured. ITD also expressed confidence in the safety of its other construction projects.

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit has not confirmed whether ITD will be blacklisted by the government but indicated that criminal charges are under consideration.

More CREC IMO specifically China Railway No.10. This is where cost cutting would have come from.

Cost cutting !! dont you mean coruption !!  they were contracted to build the tower with specified materials they did not, that is fraud/coruption  not cost cutting

That's the thing about language. There are many ways and many words to convey the same message. The whole thing is bent. Do I mean the building is physically bent or the process of awarding contracts and cost cutting on building materials is bent. The slang word bent meaning .......? just use the correct word     Cost-cutting involves reducing expenses to save money, while corruption is dishonest or illegal behavior, often involving abuse of power for personal gain.

I am bent out of shape due to the bent steel, from a bent contract, signed by an obviously bent official. So with all that out of the way I'm off to town in my Bentley to buy a Fray Bentos pie.

By the way my next door neighbour is bent (so is his boyfriend). Nice guys. Have a nice day😂

Does that mean Tourists can come without any concerns, right now? Or should more time be given?

Based on the governments record on safety, take this declaration with a grain of salt.

Please don't tell me what English I should use. As I said before in context of this building collapse most if not all know what the term cost cutting is in regards to.

Right now I am not in TH. Some friends wanted to come, and inquired. Apparently, last Friday there had been a scare and some buildings were evacuated. Also it seems the Skytrains stopped, causing a massive traffic jam. Thats the reason I asked this question - just to get the situation from people living there.

Things are pretty much back to normal, my daughter even went to the Disney Ice Capades on Sunday.

I used to work in major concrete construction projects. I laughed when I read this line.

'Samples have already been collected for analysis, and preliminary results are expected within two or three days."

 

During construction in safer places, independent agencies come and take sample of the concrete while it is being poured and after it dries for a certain time they do a compression test. If it fails then the poor measly workers like me had to take Air Hammers and destroy the entire structure that included that concrete.  And it hell and often took days.

 

That's the correct way to do this, not see if it falls down and then test it. And of course once they realize it was substandard, a few envelopes changing hands will ensure it is strong enough.

 

NOT AFTER THE BUILING COLLAPSES!!!!

They should be more worried that if something happens (not just an Earthquake) nobody knows what is going on, because there are no systems of communicating the situation to the public promptly.
The situation and information available after the earthquake was a disgrace.
How was anybody to know what was open or closed off, in infrastructure or transport.

Concrete sample would/ should have been taken at the point of pour  first a slump test is taken then test cube;s are taken for 7 day and 28 day compression test  this is to measure the compression  strenght of the Concrete usually refer to in MPA   the longer concret cures the stronger it gets  concrete after it is cured, the strenght can be measured with a instrument called a glegg hammer

There are time constraints in a pour  normally a slab should be poured in one go  if this does not happen you can get what they call a cold join   if the concrete fails for any reason the above poster is correct out come the jack hammers

The three are: Thotsamintarathirat Building at Ratchawithi Hospital in Phya Thai district of Bangkok, Department of Revenue building, Immigration Bureau office building Chaeng Wattana

Presumably that's going to have an impact on 1) Tax payments/assessments and 2) Immigration services.
