Rescue Teams Make Breakthrough in Bangkok Building Collapse

Rescue teams have successfully created an opening in the rubble of the collapsed Auditor General's Office in Bangkok, intensifying efforts to find survivors. This follows the unexpected collapse of the city-centre building, which left several individuals trapped underneath.

 

On 3rd April 2025, rescue workers and volunteers detected signs of life and heard cries for help from beneath the debris. In response, a coordinated effort involving rescue units, volunteers, and heavy machinery aimed to breach into the suspected survival zones under the concrete wreckage, managing to lift three large slabs so far.

 

 

 

Rescue operations also employed search and rescue dogs (K9 units) to boost the chances of locating any survivors still trapped in the ruins. All efforts are being urgently conducted to reach and safely rescue any remaining individuals as quickly as possible.

 

As of 5:30 PM, a team using a backhoe has successfully opened a large cavity in Zone D of the site. It is currently being assessed for survivors.

I haven't heard of refusals of assistance.....could you please explain that?

I"ve been past the site a few times and it's really busy....the removal of rubble is slow work....picking off heavy concrete elements is difficult and there's always the danger of creating slips.

I too was shocked to read this, as stated above the removal of rubble will be a slow & unenviable task due to the risk of further collapse within the excavated tunnels, I wish the best of luck to all of the recovery workers.

The rule is keep digging until the last one is found. I wonder if they are using GPR or the like. I saw them using dogs, I wonder if USAR is using robots?

I ran a charity in Cambodia and I wanted the register it in Thailand as I live here.

The lawyer said -

forget it. It will never be allowed.

Thailand does not like to admit that it is getting help from a foreign charity.

 

I replied that the charity was helping kids in Cambodia, not in Thailand.

 

Lawyer said that it made no difference. Almost impossible for a foreigner to run a charity in Thailand.

I had to register it in the USA.

(The Cambodian 'charity business' was too corrupt.)

 

Lots more examples of Thais refusing help from foreign countries.

On the Thai news was that an artist wwho had arranged equipment to help in the first days was send away from the site and that she was very angry and did not contribute anything anymore for help as as she said it will be rejected.

Thank you for dispelling one of AN's biggest bar stool myths. Sad people, bitter about Thailand, make things up constantly.

The only justified one is after the tsunami, Thaksin - the most arrogant man on the planet - said Thailand had enough resources and would be fine. Obviously they quickly changed their mind and allowed all assistance when the scale of the disaster became clear.

Other than that it is just AN bar stool nonsense. Sadly it is self perpetuating as one grump says it and all the other grumps immediately believe it and repeat it to other grumps. And so on and so on. No one is intelligent enough to actually check.

I saw on Channel 33 a report that showed three American soldiers surveying the collapsed building.  I saw on subdued American flag patch and a few unit patches.  Grapevine says that sensors provided the location of one survivor but that is just speculation so far.
