A foreign female tourist was assaulted in broad daylight in Phuket Old Town by a Thai man, in an incident that has sparked widespread concern over public safety in one of the island’s busiest tourist areas.

The attack occurred while the woman was standing by the roadside in the heart of the Old Town. Eyewitnesses stated that the assailant approached her without warning, grabbed her by the hair, and began striking her repeatedly. The shocking incident unfolded in full view of passers-by, some of whom recorded the attack on their phones. Videos quickly went viral on social media platforms, prompting calls for greater police presence and protective measures for tourists.

Fortunately, a local man and others, intervened and are now being praised as a Good Samaritans. The local man who intervened, identified as Mr Chindanai, 34, a Phuket resident and wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time, stepped in, physically pushing the attacker away and shielding the victim from further harm. The intervention caused the suspect to flee the scene on foot.

Thanks to the swift response of bystanders and video evidence circulating online, the Phuket City Police were able to track down and arrest the suspect shortly after the incident. The alleged assailant was identified as Mr Prasong, a 40-year-old man from Chanthaburi province. He was taken into custody and is currently undergoing police interrogation.

Although the female tourist, visibly shaken by the incident, chose not to file a formal complaint or press charges, local authorities confirmed that they would proceed with legal action regardless. “Public safety, especially in high-traffic tourist areas, is a top priority,” a spokesperson from Phuket City Police stated. “This kind of behaviour is unacceptable and will be dealt with through the full extent of the law.”

City officials have said that they are reviewing current safety protocols and considering increased patrols in Phuket Old Town and other tourist hotspots to reassure visitors and prevent similar incidents in the future.

there's a lot more to this story: maybe she was 'working' for him and did not hand over all the money that was made...

i mean anything is possible!

especially after she did not press charges...

Yes, that would help enormously.

Simply disgusting behavior, but since there are hardly any consequences it certainly will not get better in the future. The law seems to work for the rich only in certain cases, and as a foreigner you cant expect to ever get a fair deal whatsoever.

Well done, motorcyclist. Looking at the pics the attacker is destitute and off his rocker. Prison or mental hospital?

Yeah, and then you get headshots, man get checked!

People who do this rather than stepping in to help should be prosecuted beyond the fullest extent of the law.  some of whom recorded the attack on their phones."

people who live in Phuket don't want to admit it's much worse than Pattaya.

At least I have never heard of foreigners being beaten by teenagers riding motorcycles. Teen gangs are a reality in Pattaya. The example:

You really need to address your mentality and drag your mind out of the gutter!!! Not every woman is a woman of the night! A French Tourist! Let that sink in a while....

This is the scrary part.. naturally for anyone seeing this you would immediately jump to help. I would too. But as a farang, you have a great risk of surrounding Thai males misinterpreting the situation and attacking you instead. If you saw the German guy who was beaten in Pattaya, some of the attackers confessed they had nothing to do with any party but just saw it and joined the beating.

I would mind my own business

How do you know it's not some loudmouth Russian girl

This post is evidence that you’re ‘nearly’ as unhinged as the attacker…

That could have turned really nasty if that guy had not intervened, he must have seen it all from across the road,

Thai's know they can give you a good kicking and only have to pay 500 baht down the cop shop,

2. Crimes committed by the above are undeterrable.

3.  Kudos to the helmet guy

4.  Why criticize the people in the car if you dont know their circumstances.

5. The victim needs self defense class or forgot her training:

Eyes and balls, eyes and balls, eyes and balls.

Dearest Dimitry, did they not hunt down farang in Phuket with slingshots?

"Following up from yesterday’s report there has been no action taken to remove a Facebook page advocating violence against “<deleted> tourists” stranded in Phuket. ‘Spotlight Thailand’, usually a ‘whistleblower’ for local corruption and fuelled by the admin’s political views, has nearly 600,000 followers.

Now this week’s posts are going viral, spreading a disturbing message from local Phuket ‘vigilantes’, commenting about the original post, that is likely do irreparable harm to the holiday island’s reputation as a safe place to visit in the future. The posts advocate violence against tourists"

https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/crime/facebook-page-advocates-violence-against-<deleted>-tourists-in-phuket

So you can pick your opponents, motorcycle gangs in Pattaya or gangs armed with slingshots in Phuket.

Or just come to Chiang Mai. Hahahaha...

Hitting a woman just because she pushed in front of you? Must show better restraint, as women shouldn't be hit anyway. If I hit every Chinese woman that pushed in front of me at an airport, I would have made front page news in Beijing.

He did show restraint - it’s only in his delusional imagination that he smashes women (both contexts)….. 🤫
