And was suddenly attending parties with New York's up and coming rich classes, where I suspect barely anyone understood her. But maybe her accent didn't matter at those sorts of parties.

Europe has history (I used to live in a house older than the USA ever existed), Europe has class and refinement, Europe is still a major player even after 2000 years, Europe has good food, good cars, good healthcare, good social security, good schooling, good infrastructure, good people and they have the Dutch. And now with the US government's hostility to Europe and cosiness with Putin, the UK is inevitably closer to mainland Europe.

The UK has never had a war with Russia, they were our allies against most of Europe.
