In a case of road rage in Ayutthaya, a young man was fatally stabbed during a brawl at a red traffic light, only for the attacker to later discover that the victim was a relative.

The incident occurred in the early hours of 7 April on Rojana Road in the Sam Ruean subdistrict of Bang Pa-in district. According to police at Bang Pa-in Police Station, 17-year-old Porames (also known as James), from Wang Noi district, was arrested and questioned in connection with the stabbing. He has admitted to the crime.

James was reportedly returning from a festival in Uthai district with a group of friends on motorcycles when they stopped at a red light. At the same light, another group of youths, one later identified as the victims, pulled up behind them. James claimed he smiled at them, but received a hostile glare in return.

One of the young men allegedly picked up a bottle, appearing ready to throw it. James responded by reminding them they had all just been to the same festival, saying, “We were just at the same event, are you really going to start something?”

As the light turned green, James and his group drove off. However, tensions escalated minutes later when the other group, riding in a convoy of around ten motorcycles, signalled for them to stop. A fight broke out on the roadside. During the melee, James claimed he intervened to defend a friend who was being attacked, using a knife he had purchased online to stab two members of the opposing group.

One of the victims, 18-year-old Natthanon (also known as Mick), died from his injuries. Another youth, 19-year-old Adisorn, was seriously wounded. After fleeing the scene, James was later apprehended by police following analysis of CCTV footage and eyewitness reports.

During questioning, James expressed shock and remorse, stating he had no idea the deceased was a relative until after his arrest. “We just fought because of a misunderstanding. I had no clue he was family,” he said.

The Bang Pa-in police chief, Colonel Adirek Pothipan, confirmed that officers were alerted by staff at Wang Noi Hospital after Natthanon succumbed to his injuries. Police quickly launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of the teenage suspect. James has reportedly confessed to all charges.

“This is a painful reminder to all young people to think carefully before acting in anger,” Colonel Adirek said. “Not only has a life been lost, but it turns out they were related.”

Natthanon’s aunt, 46-year-old Thongmok, visited the police station to collect documents related to his death. She recounted how a relative called her during the night to say her nephew had been stabbed and was in critical condition. “He was just working a part-time job during the school holidays. We never expected this,” she said. “Why resort to violence when there was no real animosity?”

James’s mother, 48-year-old Tha, said she was still in shock. “I didn’t know anything until police arrived at our home,” she said. “They said my son had killed someone. I only knew he had gone out with friends.”

What happened to the good old days, they were all known as Somchai's.

You've been here a long time, no?  Then you know probably 98% have a nickname and Somchai ain't one of them. That's just a little bit like slander or the 'r' word. Do better @SAFETY FIRST.
It was absolutely stupid what those boys did, getting into a fight over nothing and 'James' in particular.

Yep, we all try to do that. (Personally, I admit I just hate the "Somchai" label) So maybe it was the wrong side, but it's a king and that would require too much rolling. 55🤣
