China hits back with 84% tarrifs on us

I didn't mean it to be taken literally. America sells way less to China than China sells to the USA. That means to a degree America decides how much its people suffer from tariffs and has the upper hand.

No, it means your county produces things which people don't want to pay for and rather buy cheap Chinese stuff.

Trump's base will be going ape-feces very soon with the price increases they'll be seeing.   Imagine spending all of that time and money to follow Trump around to his rallies.....

You forget to mention an export stop on rare earth minerals to the US.

The USA in the long run has its own resources and ability to produce food. If things go really badly America will suffer and China will implode. The other thing is we can't leave it how it is. It's a matter of national security should we ever have to go to war with China. We needed to do something decades ago. Doesn't look like Trump is backing down so I guess we are going to find out.

An economic reset might actually be a good thing for young Americans who can't afford a house or anything else. A lot of boomer money is about to go up in smoke.

There you go, they want to start another war again.

Should we ever have to is different than what you suggested that we are actively plannning to go to war.My point is we can not go with the status quo forever. We should have taken corrective measures decades ago, the second best time to do that is today. Unless you are saying the USA can sit there and rely on China in the future to be our sole source of medicine for example.

Try to produce goods for a good price that people want to buy.

Again think of the other side for once. How do you think Canada fares under all of that?

Trump ups the ante again. You got to love the Trump, he never gives up unlike old sleepy Joe.

What part about "the USA customer is paying these fees" don't you understand?

Is that any worse than some 9 year old Cambodian girl putting together soccer balls in a sweat shop?

Do you think he will do it for the same wage?

My point was limited to mocking an obese man in a factory. The point is he can do it. Now the fact you seem to think little kids working for $100 a month is admirable or desirable that's another story. Nothing libs love more than their beloved little brown skinned cousins toiling for pennies.

In that sense tariffs actually take away some of the advantage of under aged slave labor. Maybe you are on to something. 1,000% tariffs for countries that don't meet labor requirements.

I am not a lib, i don't' think it is admirable that USA companies exploit children in other countries.

I just want to make clear that you won't be able to create products in your own country for a competitive price.

Unless you reduce your wages by a lot, you will never be able to compete, and your local customers won't be able to pay for these USA produced goods.

Yet still you don't understand that the USA consumers will get a 1000% price increase.

I do understand that. At that point I will buy American if possible. Now I can buy a set of silverware from China for let's say $89 and the American made one is around $200. With tariffs many things become very close.

Anyway it will all be made by robots in ten years or so. It's funny you say it is USA companies doing this. Like the USA is alone.

The reality is if the USA tries to remain a consumer based economy we will be bankrupt soon anyway.

Bizarro world - where trade wars are good, and easy to win!

Do you really think that most of the USA consumers will be happy to pay $111 more?

When the robots are doing all the factory jobs, and all the maintenance jobs, and all the ciphering jobs, then it'll be the robots e buying the chrome polish and La-Z-bot recliners.

Americans will be able to shop at Goodwill with their monthly universal basic income.

Where would those Americans get the funds from to do all the buying?

I realize that you're making a joke, but the situation would actually be more comparable to slave labor. Basically the robots are from an economic standpoint, effectively slaves. Their owners give them energy and maintenance and maybe upgrades but that's it. Once their production pays for their expenses everything else is mostly gravy so to speak.

You know that most of the silver in the US comes from Mexico? Oh wait, Trump just slapped tariffs on those imports

And what are Americans doing when most of the jobs can be filled by robots?

Or until then, who's buying those $2000 iPhones and $500 sneakers when 'merkan labor is making $20/hour?

Exactly.

Trump's grand plan is to onshore all those low-paying factory assembly jobs to 'merka, pumping out products 'merkan slave labor can't afford, and that foreign countries won't buy because of the 300% tariffs.

Either that, or everybody gonna become an innertubes influencer or OnlyFans model.

So, the USA customer will be happy to pay $200 as they make it themselves while the rest of the world, who don't have these tariffs against other countries still buy it for $89. You will be the laughingstock of the world (are already actually as these politics make no sense at all).

They'll be full time costumers. Thanks to the extraordinarily productive slave labor, a guaranteed wage would not only be possible but inevitable. How else to consume all the stuff those robots will be making?

In that case, why bother with money.  All citizens of Trumperville shall be issued a minimum quantity of Trump-bits monthly on their winner-card that they can spend on Trump-rations in the Trump-commissary.

The big orange buffoon has backed off on most of his tarrifs. Who could have imagined that. Hahaha.

Okay but if it came down to it, the USA exports a ton of food. If we didn't do that we still feed ourselves. It could be a green organic renaissance.lol That's a lefties wet dream.

US is a $50 billion net food importer.

The whole point of free trade agreements after WWII was that it's better for countries to trade than to fight each other. The result has been complex supply chains that actually work to make life better for people everywhere. Trump's tariff war blows up those supply chains. It also doesn't make sense to many economists (Democrat or Republican inclined, it doesn't matter) and it is really a prelude to a bigger war (economic or military) which IMO China is likely to win. And all those tariffs that Trump has imposed break trade agreements which in some cases he himself signed (in his first term) – so much for American trustworthiness, now lost somewhere in the gutter.  I suppose in the short term Trump can point to an increase in government income (paid for by hapless consumers), and give tax cuts to his billionaire donors with the promise to people wanting jobs that Apple may eventually start making iPhones in the US – for a mere $3,000 a pop. And it's fascinating that Russia has a free ride in all of this, just in case you still want evidence for all those assertions that Trump is nothing more than Putin's puppet. Russia is one of the biggest winners in what's going on now.

OK. My mistake.

Importantly, one really cannot NOT have tariffs on countries, such as China, that exploit and employ SLAVE LABOR.

One needs to protect one's economy from all countries that use SLAVE LABOR.

And, we need to punish US companies that setup factories in countries that allow slave labor.

For this purpose, tariffs are a godsend.

The problem is that many US companies LOVE SLAVE LABOR.

Instead, these days, we should enforce the use of Robotics whenever feasible to do so.

Some people in some countries love to argue about the many BENEFITS of slave labor.

And I agree that such people should be enslaved for a decade, just to teach them the many benefits of being a slave.

So, if true, then this is the way it should be:

Keep tariffs super high on China until the country loses/exterminates/deports Xi and becomes Democratic.

And, keep tariffs until China raises minimum wage to USD15.00 per hour.

I am pretty sure this has been Trump's plan from the beginning.

a. To reduce tariffs between Free Nations.

b. To increase tariffs on the ChiCom Bandit State, with Xi as the Great Helmsman and Criminal of the People.

We need to take back the stolen BILLIONS that Xi has stolen.

We need to have free elections in China.

And, we cannot have China threatening the world and threatening its neighbors.

China must acknowledge that Taiwan in a separate country, as has always been the case.

OR, We will increase tariffs on China goods to 300 percent....BIG TIME....!

Tariffs are very low between the US and other developed nations. He even penalized countries that run a trade deficit with the USA. His plan is not rational. It's about his foolish belief that the US is being cheated because it runs a negative trade balance.
