Non-citizens working in the US may need to have a Social Security Number.

The US workforce is around 170 million individuals.

So this (2024 figure) represents 1.2% of workers in the US being non-citizens.

 

Clutch your pearls if you must but this is no scandal.

This is simple arithmetic, don't even need anything beyond finding a percentage to evaluate this info, but apparently beyond the modest abilities of the OP.

 

Significant numbers of those workers are technically educated and take jobs that the kind of innumerates who think this is a scandal cannot do.
