DSI Reports Progress on Chinese Nominee Company Case Linked to Collapsed Building

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has revealed that investigations into the use of nominee companies by a Chinese construction firm involved in the collapsed State Audit Office building have progressed by nearly 50%. Financial trails are currently under scrutiny, according to DSI spokesperson Pol. Lt. Col. Woranan Srilam.

Speaking at the site of the collapsed building, which was brought down by a recent earthquake, Woranan outlined three key criminal cases now under DSI’s jurisdiction. The first concerns allegations that a Chinese company used Thai nominees to operate illegally in the construction sector. The investigation has already made significant headway, with financial transactions under active review.

Investigators are also examining whether the foreign-owned company’s involvement breaches procurement laws, as well as whether construction materials used in the project met national standards. Samples of cement have been taken for further analysis to determine if substandard materials contributed to the collapse. If any irregularities are found, additional charges will be pursued.

“We encourage all involved parties to come forward and clarify their positions to expedite the process,” said Woranan, noting that updates on the case are being filed daily.

The second case, newly accepted by the DSI, involves allegations of tax evasion by the same company, Xin Keyuan Steel Co., Ltd. The Revenue Department submitted a formal complaint last week, prompting the DSI’s tax division to begin an independent investigation into suspected irregularities.

The third case relates to environmental violations, specifically the illegal storage or disposal of approximately 40,000 tonnes of red dust (hazardous industrial waste contaminated with heavy metals, resulting from the steel smelting process.). This case emerged following a joint inspection conducted by the Department of Industrial Works and DSI on 11 April. The case is currently awaiting approval from the DSI Director-General before a full-scale investigation can proceed.

All three cases are part of a broader probe into the collapse of the State Audit Office building and associated misconduct. The DSI has pledged to pursue justice and transparency in its handling of the matter.

It looks like this company is going for a 'grand slam' in fraud and other illegal practices.

I'd be more interested in their investigation of the officials that have allowed this to happen.  Again.
