Hire car for a month. Starting in Chiang Mai.

Where would you go in that month?

How about Phu Chi Fah and Mae Hong Son?

Well Mr Harris, let me tell you that I have not been in a bar for over 10 years, I gave up alcohol many years ago.

First, up to Chiang Rai and then on to Mei Sai. Then, pass by the Royal Project at Doi Tung on your way to joining the Mae Hong Son loop. Finish at Doi Inthanon and then on down to Sukhothai. See the Unesco there and also Si Sachanarai (sp). Finally, dash through to Nong Khai on the Mekong River.

Nice tour with history and nature.

Don't forget the Cave Rescue site where the Wild Boar kids were rescued, about 40km outside Chiang Rai on the road to Mai Sai.

Driving in Thailand is stressful. Would never do it for more than a day.

Doi Inthanon, Chiang Dao, MaeHongSon, Tak there are many natural forests and mountains in the north with some absolutely gorgeous waterfalls and hiking trails.  I am sure that there are travel guides that could name a lot of other places and the areas of your particular interest.  You don't want to go into some areas during the full blown rainy season due to flooding. Enjoy! I did already over many years!

Doesn't it all get a bit same same after a while. Like Paddy going around looking at the same sort of stuff. Is Paddy still a thing?

Doesn't everything?

I love it

You would. Traveling long distances overland within Thailand for weeks on-end is only recommended for low-class, budget-stricken twonkers.
