Any suggestions please for a watch or key place that can replace batteries for the remote controls for automatic garage doors and gates. (We need both.)

My 'go to' place on the airport road only does car/bike remotes.

He suggested watch repair places.

One in Big C and one in Lotus's  - any other suggestions please?

I can't offer a place, but our remotes come apart easily if you have watchmakers screwdrivers, batteries readily available on Lazada.

 

I'm surprised your local man can't do it unless he simply doesn't have the cells.

I am trying to save time - we have a number of different makes/types.

Fairy nuff, understood.

 

We have at least 4 cell types in remotes (apart from regular AA and AAA) but they are the same in the car remotes.

 

I just buy 10 of each type then when they go dead it's a 5 minute job. Of course, when you are down to two it's time to order more 🙂

How long can you keep these button cells in storage?

CR2025 cells have a shelf life of around 10 years.

 

The 12V alkaline ones that are in some remotes are good for 3-5 years.

 

Both tend to have manufacturing or use-by dates on the packaging.

 

 

Thankfully the wife doesn't need batteries ...

All the 12V I've had, the entire pack is bad by the time I've used one.

I bought a battery for an auto gate remote control at HomePro. Easy to replace.

Until you find out that her battery is really dead, what will you do then?
If it is a lithium battery it should never be discharged to 100%....

Stupidly, I took your well meant advice.

However, you obviously do not suffer from dodgy digits.

At 74, my hands are often 'trembling' with the occasional jerk in a 'random direction'.

(Plays havoc when I am using the mouse.)

Took the remote apart and bits fell out everywhere.

Managed to put them all back - even in the right places (?), fitted a new battery and.......

......red light on continuously and still does not work.

 

Back to the drawing board.

I bet you've got one of the button actuator "floppy thingies" trapped (been there, got the t-shirt).

 

Do you have someone with steadier hands to pull apart and re-do.

 

Whilst I doubt you've actually killed anything, if you fit the battery to the bare board does the light stay stuck on? I have had remotes that just didn't come back after battery replacement, no real idea why.

That is why I take it to the 'professionals'.

The lads that work with me are very enthusiastic, but typical untrained Thais.

They make everything work - eventually.

 

Light comes on as soon as I insert the battery, and stays on.

I did try pressing all of the control switches but no change
