It's attire for the gyms or other sports. One pieces are used to power lift. A wife beater is one who takes his anger out on those weaker than him.

They're singlets if you wear them in the gym.  They're wife beaters if you wear them out on public.

I agree, maybe a tattoo zone within the forum where these people mix together and talk tattoos and the story behind them 🥱, @fredwiggy can be put in charge, commander in chief of the tattoo people.

What the heck is a singlet ?

That is very definitely a threat, as if something bad would happen if the previous poster said his piece to the faces of those you admire so much.

That's not a threat but a challenge, because I know they wouldn't say these things to people in person, preferring to do it on forums such as these. Do you think they would go up to people bigger than they are and say they're stupid for having tattoos? Going up to anyone and saying what they say here would show no class or restraint, and prejudice because they have tattoos, judging them because of them. Yes, something bad might happen if people talked sh*t to others, and it does. Sticking up for people with tattoos doesn't mean admiring them. Its just like sticking up for people calling Brits fat drunks. It's what you do.

Very interesting. I try to stay away from anyone that has a tat as they are a sure sign of low class and a lack of education.

No, they're clothes without a mind. A wife beater is a disturbed person who's a coward, and they wear all types of clothes in public. People do enjoy sports outside. Just one picture to show a singlet, which millions wear, and aren't wife beaters......image.jpeg.0f88c9f58b487ad2b57504b8c27c6fa5.jpeg

Some of you might have recognized the stolen title of my post.

It is taken from Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal", a satire where Swift suggested cannibalism of children as a solution to conflicts between the Irish and English.

That might have been clue that this suggestion was also a satire, not intended to be implemented on AN.

Seemingly some self-proclaimed very intelligent people aren't particularly familiar with the literature of the English language or they would not have reacted so vehemently to a satire.

As always, any topic on AN can be trusted to devolve into bickering and name calling this clearly has been no exception.

As always, some just can't stop "contributing" once their switch has been flipped.

Some interesting and funny contributions.

Was kind of fun for a while but after a time just seems like teasing a chained animal.

We call 'em "wife beaters" where I come from.

Used to be called Guinea T's, but we can't say that any more.

I wear these types of sleeveless shirts a lot.

Except when I pop into a restaurant, I may put on a shirt with sleeves.
It's incredibly hot and uncomfortable to wear too much clothing, and I do like to get as much exposure to sun as possible.

And it doesn't look like an undergarment. Those look really silly.

And at the end of the day, you can often tell by the person wearing the shirt if he's a wife-beater or not.

The shirt itself isn't the problem.

I could give a rip if anyone else has a tattoo or not.  What someone chooses to do with their own body is up to them.

File the OP's thread under "Dumb Suggestions Which Make No Sense" or "OP Possibility Penned By bob smith."

You might look into asking you doctor for a blood test.

You may have a severe irony deficiency disorder.

Yep, I've been wearing them for 50 years, and never hit a woman.

You've never noticed anything about tattoo people? you are either very unobservant or woke where you don't want to say

I wish I lived in a climate that was more moderate so I could wear a more diversified wardrobe with some nice shirts.

But it's so hot walking around here ... these types of sleeveless t-shirts are perfect for the climate.

I saw someone wearing a "tuque" ... looked silly to me wearing that in this heat.

Singlets are a good idea here, too hot for polo shirts, tee shirts and long sleeve shirts unless you want sweaty pits, some people spend all day in AC so it doesn't matter

One reason I miss, and will go back to Texas. 4 seasons, Hotter on average than here but a few months where it gets cool and cold.

When I see a fur-rang all tatted up, I admit I am a bit wary. They sometimes give off "criminal vibes".

But it's probably 20% of guys who might be shady. The others are just trying to look cool. And it does look pretty cool I guess. The girls probably like it and it might even help you get laid more in Thailand. Not sure as I don't have any. Maybe I should get some.

I just saw a waitress with a couple of small tattoos. She's the sweetest girl ever. For sure never worked in bar. They're influenced by other people, pop stars. It's no big deal.

Always find it interesting to talk with a young lady who complains about having no money  yet has several thousand dollars worth of tattoos.

Some very stupid people.

If you're from Texas, you should know what sh*t kickers are.  And nobody really kicks sh*t in them.  That's just what we call them.

Like "wife beater", it's a way to describe exactly what they are in a word or 2.  Not meant to demean anyone.

Edit:  I'd never even heard of a "singlet" until I traveled where I found Brits.  I had to look it up the first time.

So you started a dumb topic that you knew would make people argue, then you argued with people that disagreed with you, now you're trying to make out that you're better than the people that disagreed with you about your dumb topic?

That's pretty sad of you, to be honest.

It's a little ironic, that while the original "modest proposal" was meant to mock the rich, who looked down on the poor, you couldn't help but take the side of the "rich" and mock the "poor" yourself who you clearly look down on.

Perhaps you should go and sit somewhere quiet and read the original "modest proposal" and think about how you have presented yourself here.

It's the equivalent of a tuxedo for an Aussie. Commonly worn at weddings and such like.

In England, a vest.

the young girls are totally naive, they often get tattoos when very young when they have no clue, often at the hands of a Thai tattooist boyfriend who wants to stamp them

A vest or tank top are more common descriptions for Brits but when in Thailand that's changed to wife beater and singlet

Yeah, could be. Also influenced by pop stars.

But I'm not convinced it's a really bad thing if you just get a cute tiny one. Unless you get too many and/or some nasty ones whose message you outgrow. A guy in high school was a metalhead with 100 tattoos about the devil and 666 and the beast. Later on, he had to do laser surgery to get them removed.

I think I saw a tattoo place called "Very Sure Tattoo".

Ha ha ... no regrets it you get a tattoo at this joint!

Gyms are full of people who care enough about themselves, and their families, to take good care of themselves to ward off injuries and disease. I've noticed people from all walks of life in 50 years in gyms, and none were cavemen. cavemen don't make enough to afford a gym membership, as you can't pay in raw meat.

Gym junkies live shorter lives

You might want to look at your personal assumptions that it is the poor who have tattoos and who you clearly look down on.

I started this topic because I encountered an annoying tattooed loudmouth today.

You have brilliantly psychoanalyzed my motivations.

I am sure you are qualified to do that.

I am flattered to be the subject of attack in one of your 10,000 plus well thought out posts.

One aspect seldom discussed in these dichotomic type of threads is the actual quality of the tattoo and who is wearing it.

I would be interested in seeing what kind of physical shape the virulent anti-ink posters are. I think there could be potential for amusement there.

Cheers Bro, thanks for confirming the name for a singlet.
