Deli sandwich cafe

Correct me if I'm wrong , didn't Jomtien have a Deli type sandwich cafe a few years ago that sold pastrami sandwich

Don't know but there is a new sandwich shop on Kao Talo, problem is rubbish location, sandwiches are packaged and expensive, more than some meals elsewhere

Yeah I used to use Subway a bit in what s now Big-CX, it's gone now.

Yes, you're thinking of Pastrami on Rye, which was very good.

 

 

It closed down before Covid came to stay with us, I think the owner decided to relocate to Bangkok but I've no idea if he ever opened a shop there or if it was a success. It seems a classic example of a successful business in Jomtien, appreciated by the local community, that simply shut up shop.

Something TH really doesn't have.   And to put out good deli sandwiches, the prices they'd need to charge would put even me off.

 

Coming from Philly, PA, USA, it's easy to live of Hoagies, Steaks or Roast meat sandwiches & Pizza.

 

There's a deli or pizza shop on every other corner.  Most acceptable, to down right tasty.

https://sloanes.co.th have put out a range to include Pastrami and Corned Beef. So you can easily make your own sandwiches. Have seen them in Big C and Big C Extra.

Yes, it is definitely hard to beat a Philly Steak and Cheese sub!

Espanol, the 200g version costs 585 baht. Aren't there 100 gram and 150 gram options at 295 and 435 baht respectively?

200 gram of Corned Beef from Sloane's at Big C costs 248 baht. Make your own.

Their 200g Pastrami sandwich is even more expensive, at 655 baht. I think Sloane's 200 gram pack of Pastrami is 385 baht.

I would expect that to be a standard ballpark price for a good meaty sandwich outside of TH.  

 

Maybe a bit cheaper from them, as only take out or delivery, as they are avoiding a lot of overhead.

Cheese steaks or that weird stuff at Nifty Fifties...scrapple? That was a nice cafe.

Katz Deli is down on Houston Street. I think I've been there.That's sort of the neighborhood for that stuff. When I lived there, I could walk down there from Bleecker Street and once in a while, I did.  Wander through Little Italy and Chinatown while I was out. 

 

Anyway, if you want to spend a fortune on a pastrami sandwich, the place to go is the Carnegie Deli, near Carnegie Hall. It's sort of a tourist trap, but it's an experience.

 

Edit:  They say the original Carnegie Deli across from Carnegie Hall closed in 2016, although there's now a Deli with that name in the Madison Square Garden area.  I haven't kept up with all the changes.  I remember it from the mid 70s.
