“Why did you block my card? Bloody rogues, bloody thieves!”

The simple uneducated man in the video has no idea what a pre-auth hold is and how long it takes for it to 'get released' which will vary based on his bank and a number of other factors.

It is not instant and many of the less intelligent people in the world immediately start screaming about being scammed, calling the police, etc - merely for what amounts to nothing more than a pre-authorisation on a credit card.

People should really learn about the payment systems they use.

  • So bad that they could have pressed charges if wanting to.. The man had the right to be irate at the time as well as loud and angry. Any normal person would have been angry as well.

Maybe irate, but cursing the hotel staff is not the way to behave. He should have inquired politely and things would have been sorted out, shouting and calling the hotel staff names is the sign of a u

He's from Sri Lanka, not India. So do tell us all about Sri Lanka. You've obviously been all over the world, oh wise one.

Sri Lanka may be independent but the people are ethnically indian

I act the same when the bloody Indians in Canada charge my card at their hotels.

Bet he didn’t tell the staff about his other 9 mates that had slept in the room.

When u acting like him u will never win.Calm down and speaking slowly and say what's the problem and things will get solved the nice way.

The guy was obviously distressed about what had gone on with the credit cards. His emotions getting the better. However, the staff was offering very little help in confirming the mix-up. They seemed very happy for the guy to run out of steam before offering any info.

Well as he wasn't listening anyway, probably the best thing to do!

Oh how I wish he had been tazed, and then taken to the lock up to calm down for a day or two.

Doing this at a cheap motel may have been overlooked, but at the Holiday Inn, they have every right to press charges to the full extent of the law, for causing such a serious disturbance.

I have seen a similar argument about a hotel holding credit . It was explained nicely to the gentleman, but he replied that he had waited a few weeks before being re credited at a previous stay. Some people don’t understand the system.

A female relative, dressed in a brown shirt, had arrived two days earlier and asked the hotel to place a credit hold on her card to cover multiple rooms, including the irate man’s. However, when he checked in on 17 April, hotel staff were instructed to use his card instead for the same rooms, prompting a second credit hold of 14,626 baht.

If they took the hold off of her card and put it on his, couldn't they have explained this?  Or did they put a hold of both cards?

It sounds like they could have handled it better.

No they aren't. Sri Lankans are a completely different nationality made up of different ethnic groups, they speak a different language, practice a different religion (in fact it's Buddhism and the exact same form of Buddhism practiced in Thailand) and they have their own culture.

Maybe don't judge an entire group of people based off of one person. Can't you see that the family was trying to calm the man down? Obviously he has some issues but it has nothing to do with his ethnicity. This is like generalising all Australians for some of the things they have done in Southeast Asia.
