Quite.  I was stationed at Sharjah in 1970 for a year, rained once for about 5 minutes in August.

Used to do compass swings at 6am before the heat got too high.

I can relate to that, 8 years offshore Qatar, July-August horrendous temperature and humidity .....Oil company 'cool breaks' daily, stop operations - all crews inside for 20 minutes plus/minus......

My first rotation out of Oman I had to leave for the airport at 01:00 in the morning for my flight. Around midnight I checked the outside temperature and it was 40C

Yes, the local ambients could be a bit uncomfortable but the real problem came working inside an aircraft fuselage that had been sat on the apron all day. Could wring your shorts out.

Definitely, although I do miss the chilled pool that our condo in KL had, the locals hated it, too cold!

That sounds awesome! Have to see what I can do about that. 😉

Yes, we had breaks when humidity got excessive. I was RAF but when out there did 10 Days aboard HMS Fearless off the coast od Oman with the helicopter sqdn. Absolute purgatory on the flight deck, had to be fully clothed at all times, working on a great lump of steel with next to no shade.

Going back to Sharjah was like a summer hoiliday.

I remember back in Texas once when it was over 100 F for almost 45 days. It was again in 2023 although I wasn't there when it happened. I remember many single almost full months  over 100 F. It gets cool and cold there but it's actually hotter on average than Thailand, so it wasn't hard to get used to this. The rain's another story.

yeah When I was in Basic training in San Antonio in 1964, the yellow or red flag was up daily.  That meant over 100 and over 110 . We were not allowed PT or drill  so the only physical acty we could do was go to the pool! that was okay for a while especially since most of my unit did not know how to swim so were only allowed in the very shallow end.  But I also spent a couple of years in Karachi - played golf when it said 120 degrees and ll the Pakistani pros told us we were crazy to go out.  Drink 10 bottles of water, no sweating nor peeing!  So where did all that water go?

Which itself can get too warm to cool off in , especially with the lower volume of water they hold compared to say the  25 metre hotel pool I use.

Mine is 25 m. We have a ice machine too

You will be crying in May when Foodpanda stops delivering. Maybe Grab will suffice?

Doctor Vinny Boombatz says

Everything & anything to be done, should be completed in the morning. By noon, one should be inside, under the AC,  with an iced; A) tea  B) coffee  or C) Barbados Cooler,  in hand.

The problem is even by 10 am the heat is blistering.

Exactly what I was about to say.

There used to be something called the World Meteorological Society or some such conclave of scientists, whose chart had BKK down as the hottest capital in the world, based on its year-round mean temps (rather than outright maximum temp).

May or may not be true

Apparently, it is still true.

Scorching temperatures have hit parts of Thailand, including Phuket and Bangkok, with the heat index soaring to "very dangerous" levels.

Like every year at this time. Meh.

I know it has been really hot but some other places are even hotter. I spent a few months in Kuwait and being outside was the defintion of misery. I saw 48 a few times.  Only saving grace was low humidity.  As long as one does not have to do manual labor outside then I think most of us will get through it. Just hope the AC doesen't go out or the electricity gets interrupted.

That whole region has got to be hell on earth. Yikes.

I have a pool.

No, you have a cement pond of useless hot water costing you money to stop it from turning green.

Tile, salt water and I dont pay. I do enjoy floating in it, sipping a cool drink that Foodpanda delivers.

A “free” pool 😭 ….in a scorching tropical heat wave that’s “enjoyable” to float in 😭

Yeah ok 👍
