Procrastination???

Featured Replies

I don't know about anyone else, but sometimes I have a tendency to procrastinate.  It's all in my head, to be sure, but it happens.

Today, I finally did something I've been putting off for the last three months.  For three months I thought about it every day but did nothing. Today was the day I finally did something about it.  Total time: about 10 minutes.  I spent much more time worrying about it than I did doing it.

I was sometimes like the at work.  One time, I had a case in my office for two years.  I didn't want to fool with it.  And then one day picked it up and did something.  Totall time: 20 minutes.

Why do something today if you can put it off till "tomorrow“ ?

On some things I'm terrible at procrastinating (writing email to my poor old mum)

and on other things totally the opposite...must be done and dusted as fast as possible, things like taking out the rubbish, washing the dishes, filling vehicles with fuel, changing the broken light bulb.

I think you are the same as many folks,  we tend to wait & think and wait and wonder & think .....  and after 6 months we do something,      but I'm not russian ...   I'll just take my time     !!

It's not a one time thing, and it's not about "courage."  I just that I sometimes have the tendency to put things off.  And the longer I put them off, the more of a problem they become.  And then finally, I say WTF and just do it, and it takes just minutes.

To w*nk or not to w*nk, it's always the question. For those who don't, they end up posting about procrastination on AN.

I'm Biden my time

Stalin for another day

Next week I might Hitler tasks

If only I'm not Trumped by delays

Excuse me whilst I ruminate on the contents of this post awhile.

I'll get back to you.

I've been meaning to join a Procrastination Club, but think waiting until next year might be better.

It's an issue for some people, best to face things and deal with it

I sometime procrastinate. But sometimes , when I realize I should have already handled the 'situation' I go through a 2 step process:

1. - Set out all the objects/ documents etc., associated with the subject just before I leave my office, and remove everything else from my desk.

2. - Next morning I discipline myself to handle what I've laid out the previous late afternoon and ensure I keep focus (other items / subjects etc. cannot be touched) and I get the job done.

It works for me.

That sounds like it might work.  Set up the situation so that you're all set to do the work.

It's funny. I already did the one thing I was worrying about, and I still feel worried. A feeling in the back of my head as if I'm supposed to be doing something. I think I always feel that way, to a degree.  I've been retired for almost 20 years, and yet I still have a feeling that I'm supposed to be doing something.

Once in a while, I still have nightmares about some school class that I signed up for and then forgot about until 15 minutes before the final exam, where I have to BS my way though.  Not too far off from the way I actually went to school, but that's another story.

In reality, the next time I have to be anywhere or do anything is almost never. Once every 90 days I have to file a 90 day report with immigration. And once in a while, I have to pay my utility bills and do my laundry and get a haircut.  I always pat my rent well in advance.  So if I wanted, I could go to bed, binge watch some TV shows, and stay there for a few months. Not one person in the world would even notice.

One of my goals for the next year is to make myself travel more. A month here, a month there. As long as there's wi-fi wherever I go, I'm all set.

I'm having a huge problem with procrastination on a MUST DO task that I've been putting off for months. Time is running out or I'm screwed. I decided to quit cannabis at least temporarily. Hope that helps!

I have a few more radical ideas if it doesn't work. I'm hopeful it might though. Maybe hire a sadistic stranger to put the fire under my butt, abstractly speaking.

How much and where are you?

I'll let you know what I think about it later.

I used always put off doing the old little job around the house.

I would eventually get around to doing the job.

Most times I found these little jobs take no time at all.
