Ricky Eury, a beloved figure in Bristol's food scene and the mastermind behind the award-nominated Gorilla Thai Kitchens, is on a tumultuous road to recovery after a horrific road accident in Thailand. Eury, who was severely injured in a night-time crash with a motorbike in Phuket, has been discharged from the hospital but remains medically frail and incapable of returning to the UK due to outstanding health challenges.

 

The accident saw Eury, 39, sustain a fractured skull, brain bleed, shattered nose, and broken ribs. Shockingly, his travel insurance had lapsed just a day before the incident, leaving him with daunting medical expenses exceeding £30,000. Hit by a Yamaha XMAX driven by a Russian couple, Sergei and Svetlana Medvedev, Eury's ordeal has resonated deeply with both the local and British communities.

 

 

 

Friends and family are anguished at the geographical and financial distance separating them from Eury, whose culinary passion and Bristolian roots have fostered significant support. A fundraising campaign for his medical expenses has impressively raised over £30,000. Additionally, a benefit night is planned in Bristol next month to compound the efforts in bringing him back home.

 

Eury's father highlights his relentless dedication to combining fitness and culinary excellence, a commitment now echoed by friends and supporters rallying for his recovery and eventual homecoming. Though daunting, the Bristol food and fight communities remain hopeful, united in their mission to see Ricky back on his feet and thriving once more.

Surely they should pay for his treatment unless it was his fault, in which case he should pay for any damage to their vehicle.

 

Someone is liable here, insurance or not.

 

I guess he's lucky it's only £30k if it has been determined that he has to pay for it himself.

Incomprehensible to me: travel health insurance usually covers the entire duration of the trip. And in this case, it expired the day before?  I rather think that he had no insurance. Why should he, when in an emergency case there is fundraising...

I knew as soon as I saw the headline, there would be the obligatory fundraiser.

If he was riding a scooter/ motorcycle bike and had no license his insurance would of declined his claim regardless even if it had been valid if someone hit him then they would be liable for his treatment  the article is very sketchy I was hit by  young Thai rider 13 years old to young to ride a scooter as the age is 15 or 16 plus she was to young to hold a license the family paid for all my repairs thankfully I didn’t need hospital treatment when it happened I immediately called the police no one could deny anything as the accident was recorded by my installed camera 

Yet more! Insurance gone, is same as no have insurance. Driving motorbike in Thailand without insurance is stupid. Apparently his restaurant is not as good and successful a the news claims, as it not even can pay for the hospital bill without the regular fundraising.

Not sure why everyone moans about fundraisers if you aren't giving to it , who cares. The people who are stupid enough to give it, will only give to some other stupid cause either way. I wouldn’t give any money to anyone in some online fundraiser or to any big charity cause for that fact .   I give cash to my local children’s hospital directly into their hands so then there’s less chance of it going to some other place.

That may be so but what if he had extended is stay and not his insurance policy so it expired and  he was uninsured at the time of the accident.

It says the Russians hit him 

 Surely,if they were at fault, they or their insurance should cover 

 Unless the British guy had alcohol in him 

 Then he's at fault automatically

Brain Bleed?  Sounds like the Restaurant Slush-Fund didn't have enough cash left over for a proper helmet either.
