What is up with tattoos and tourists / expats here?

Featured Replies

Why is that that most tourists and expats, men and women. Farangs, asians or else do have tattoos?

And not a small one but clearly visible and obnoxious ones.

In the West for instance, you almost never see those. But here young and old people are full of it.

I would say it’s almost 1 on 2 who are covered with tatts.

Why does Thailand attracts primarly those people? Knowing that in their culture is not perceived as good. Huge paradox…

Also tattoos people have a high tendency to be degenerate. And most are sadly. Not the cream of the crop…

So why is like this? Any theory or explanation? On why they’re attracts here.

My theory is you're living in an area that's built around an industry of alcohol and prostitution.

Up in Chiang Mai the local population and tourists don't seem to have any.

Nobody in my Thai gated village (250 homes), or my Thai family have tattoos.

Walking around the town, shops and University at MaeJo, no staff, no students, no passers by with visible tattoos.

Degenerate? I know a lot of people that would like to have a word with you about that.

I suggest you continue to hide behind your keyboard.

"Degenerate? I know a lot of people that would like to have a word with you about that."

What does this mean?

That you know a lot of people that would like to engage in a spirited debate about whether people with tattoos are degenerates?

Or something else?

Something like that.

Visable or not would depend on how the people are dresses. If, as you commented, the OP is living in a certain area, the dress code would be different to that of a gated community.

Were the residents of your gated community, or members of your Thai family, to go to the beach and dress with less clothing and revealing more of their body, it may well turn out they do have tattoos.

Lots of people have them.  You probably just don't see them as much because it's cold.  Then you come to Thailand, where it's hot and people don't wear many clothes, and suddenly you think that everyone here has tattoos.

I doubt it. It constantly makes stuff up just to get it's post count up.

Everyone in the west has them for the last 30 years. I'm in canada now and every cuck seems to have them. However, women have gotten a bit smarter and abandoned this "trend".

It looks so trashy.  The number of tatts I've seen that look even ok I can count on my hand.

Every time... thought goes through my head ...what were you thinking?? ?

Young Thais now too

I really really dislike them on women. Men  I guess I don't care but it's hideous mess af

My wife has a small one she together got with a friend that no longer with her. I'd met her once. Just so happened she was wearing an open dress back showing the tattoo. I'd pay her to remove it. You'd think at 48 she'd jump at it...🙄

Adults under 50 are especially likely to have a tattoo. Some 41% of those under 30 have at least one, as do 46% of those ages 30 to 49. This compares with a quarter of adults ages 50 to 64 and 13% of those 65 and older.

We went to a big stadium and bet on it. The theory worked. Might have been a fluke who knows but tatts are painful so tough guys get them.

I am stunned, utterly stunned, at the number of young girls on Thaifriendly that have tattoos.

At least 30 per cent, probably more.

it's really annoying, because sometimes the girl is good looking and you still have to give her a pass because of the tattoos.

People LOVE to show of their ugly tattoos. They even wear purposely revealing clothes to display their flesh trophies as if it's something difficult or badass picking flash off the wall and sitting in a chair for a few hours.

I love the Chinese and Thai tatts that were done (purposely?) incorrect.

What you wanted:

"Thailand in my heart forever"

What you got:

" Thailand gives me a boner forever"

What's even more annoying is the number with a tattoo on their chest!  It seems like pretty much the trashiest place for a girl to get a tat, but it seems really popular in Thailand.

You still have not made the connection... 🤣

The Mid 1800's just called - they want their opinionated misers back !!!

Seriously though - Op, where are socialising to meet so many with tatts ??... The Blue Oyster Bar on Navy Night ?

It's primarily a class matter. Both in the West and Thailand the upper/upper middle class tend not to have them. The situation is slightly different with the under 30's but not that much. Most people don't want a tattooed accountant/lawyer/doctor working for them.Prostitutes and soldiers/sailors have always had tattoos. Here in Thailand most of the young Western male visitors are from the lower classes, and thus have plenty of ink.
