First Canada, now Australia? Conservatives fear the Trump slump is spreading

The man vying to become Australia’s next prime minister has spent weeks trying to distance himself from comparisons to US President Donald Trump.

“I’m my own person,” opposition Liberal Party leader Peter Dutton insisted, when asked for his thoughts on “Temu Trump,” the label given to him by critics referring to the Chinese website with a reputation for cheap copies.

Political analysts say comparisons to Trump have eaten away at any lead Dutton had over incumbent center-left Labor Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who is topping opinion polls before Saturday’s vote.

Coastal elites/ABC consumers I know in Oz are totally out of touch with reality.

How not to become Chinese citizens.

You don’t think for a second trump would help protect Australia do you?he seems to be doing his best to undermine Europe and they are much closer.

Yep, currently forecast Dutton will lose. Last time Trump was in power Australia aligned with Trump which hurt economically. Dutton tried playing the tough guy and with trump coming to power again and  turned around with tariffs on Australia really annoyed many Australians, lost money of the stock exchange and Superannuation values being reduced and harmed some aspects of the Australian economy quickly lost favour. We will know by 4th May if he won  / lost.

Why do all these countries feel the USA needs to be their protector?

You mean the same taxpayers/voters that have elected presidents who've kept promoting the US as the world's policeman?

Really. That's the sole reason? Who knew!

It's funny that Trump turned you lefties into a group of war mongers.   The USA can no longer afford to protect the entire Western world.

Left wing socialist globalist liberalism is a disease and spreads very rapidly in a world that is debauched. Canada has always been a  vessel of England and Australia likewise. This disease originated in the UK which was once a great land of opportunity and self reliance but unfortunately, the evils of liberal thinking has corrupted the very fabric of this once great country. At this point Canada is lost but there is still hope for Australia if its citizens wake up and realize that liberalism is like a cancer, it eats at the very core of its host and in time a person will become a withered, bitter pathetic being.

The Dems did build a government that we can't afford.

I noted, in a different post, Dutton timed it poorly. He started as a bit of a tough Trumpy guy but it looked fake and didn't resonate.

One issue that backfired and became  a big issue  is his desire to stop work from home for public servants - painting them as lazy - as well as cutting lots of public service jobs. Meanwhile people saw what was happening in the States with cuts and such and Trump was never popular here in the first place.

He then backtracked when he realised work from home is so popular and has attempted to soften his image  but has seemingly  floundered since.

You support the MIC at a significant cost to the taxpayer.  Trump turned you lefties into war mongers.

Personalities win elections. Dutton doesnt have one. Albo is a complete flog but Dutton would bore the leg of a table.

If you are conservative you should understand the trajectory of the federal budget and the implications.  The USA cannot afford to be the protectorate of the entire world.

You only disagree because Trump.

I hope you can understand that.

I see, and despite having a number of GOP administration since WW 2 ended they could do nothing about it. OK then.
