Winning, winning, head is spinning!

(Sorry, I've used that "intro" before but there is so much winning I've run out of ideas. Suggestions would be much appreciated!)

Ryanair Drops $33B Bombshell on Boeing Over Trump's Tariffs

"CEO Michael O'Leary says the airline could cancel its jaw-dropping $33 billion order for 330 Boeing jets if U.S. tariffs start driving up prices.

If the aircraft get more expensive because of politics, Ryanair will walk, O'Leary made it clear in a letter to Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi: Ryanair isn't in the business of paying for Washington's trade wars, and if Boeing loses its price edge he's open to alternatives, even China's Comac."

so what?  he's free to buy his jets from whoever he wants

So what? I'm pretty sure that wasn't the reaction in Boeing HQ.

just another "story" purely to attack Trump and his tariffs, wait and see what happens, ( it actually said those words in the article,) and don't be so naive

The C919 won't be cleared for the EU until at least 2028.

To be fair, O'Leary is a troll extraordinaire, a master at the art. Vance should take notes. He's pushing for the rejected Chinese Boeings with a big discount.

I'm pretty sure that someone else in that 6,236+ backlog queue will be pleased that they may be moving up the list.

I'll bet Ryanair will be begging for their place back in the queue, since Airbus has a 28 year backlog, based on their January 2025 deliveries and backlog.

The tariff kerfuffle will soon be in the rearview mirror, and Ryanair will be waiting another decade or two to get their planes.

Yes, I'm sure a failed businessman like Michael O'Leary wouldn't have thought of that.

PS. Calling the tariff s**t show a "kerfuffle" is like calling the Black Plague a mild cold.

I'm sure they said similar about the CEOs of TWA, Pan Am, Eastern and a bunch of other defunct airlines.  They were all cracker jack businessmen.  Then they screwed up.  Like O'Leary's doing.

OK, I'll take your word for it, because what does O'Leary know, right? Thank you for your insight Mr Impulse, this is exactly why I'm on this forum!

You sound like Trump: "Let [the workers, shareholders, and local communities where these planes are built ] eat cake."

You're now disqualified from this discussion.

It's better to link your source in order to allow others to check your claims.

Here's what I found (source using the same data, just with one more month update)

As of the end of February 2025, Airbus reported a backlog of 8,652 jets, of which 7,696—representing 89.0% of the total backlog—were A220 and A320 family narrowbodies. Airbus’ all-time backlog record of 8,769 jets was set in October 2024. Meanwhile, Boeing’s total unfilled orders (before ASC 606 adjustments) stood at 6,197 aircraft, with 4,735, or 76.4% of the total backlog being 737 MAXs. Boeing’s highest recorded backlog of 6,268 aircraft was reached in November 2024. The volume of Airbus aircraft awaiting production and delivery represents 10.3 years of deliveries based on Forecast International’s 2025 production numbers for Airbus. In comparison, Boeing’s backlog would last approximately 10.9 years based on our 2025 production forecast.

I think  you will loose that bet, O’Leary likes to bluff and is very good at getting free publicity for the airline. Yet he would not hesitate to buy from China if his airline is threaten, plus China is known for wanting to compete with boeing and airbus and they have the capability to do so with fast production. Look at their rail projects, ev-cars, space craft, Ai, super computers, etc.. They are a manufacturing giant in all most everything.

They'll get snapped up by other airlines just as the jets for China have been.

You missed one!

Trump Shuttle, an airline owned by Donald Trump, went bankrupt after just three years of operation, ceasing in 1992 due to financial losses exceeding $100 million.

At least it wasn't another casino.

Trump always walks back his ridiculous untenable positions. There are so many examples. The resources deal with Ukraine was one from earlier this week, unrecognisable from its original form.

He has and will continue to walk back these tariffs. It is all just bluster. Are we still on the (soon-to-be-extended) 90-day pause? I have lost track with so many White House U-turns and contradictions.

"CEO Michael O'Leary says the airline could cancel "

"could"  cancel ... that's called negotiating, or ensuring the price stays the same, and quite frankly, as pointed out, don't think Boeing cares, as pointed out, they have a backlog on orders already.

If cancel, and go with another manufacturer, then they'll need all new maintenance crew training, and parts department, as most of their fleet is Boeings already.  Unless of course, new supplier uses the same engines, along with getting on the new supplier's Q for delivery.

Just another silly anti Trump headliner on AN ...

Trolling meme removed.

Trump is destroying the US economy one step at a time. It could be intentional. It could be diabolical. Nobody knows. He could simply be unhinged or following the dictates of a very sinister cabal.

One thing is certain. He is accomplishing very little, he will NOT bring manufacturing back to America, which is stupid over priced (I am here now and real inflation (not idiotic government figures) is raging at 20% or higher right now), he is causing alot of pain, he is losing support, destroying businesses, and consumer confidence, he does not have a coherent plan, and he is a destructive nimwit.

You don't understand how low cost carriers work. The point of their operations is simplification, meaning trying to have planes of same model with compatible parts, so that you can use any plane on any route and minimise the parts inventory as you don't have to keep parts for every different model.

Air Asia used to be a Boeing 737 customer... used to be. After making a switch to Airbus, it has flushed out all of their Boeing fleet, and should Ryan Air switch to Airbus, they would do the same.

Ryanair is not the only airline cancelling or considering to cancel orders. Just adding Chinese airlines to that list wipes significant proportion of that waiting list, and that's just the airlines that made their intentions public. Boeing is not in good shape, for a while already (nothing to do with Trump). This is certainly not great news for them.

You don't figure that's because of Boeings "falling out of the sky" problem, that long predated Trump tariffs?
