Dog attacked the neighbours today. Made me smile.

After some shouting, I saw the woman spraying their pet dog in the face with a high powered pressure wash.  The man then came out and started beating it with a stick.  They own 5 dogs that are left out all day in the 40 degrees sun.

At another house the road used to flood when it rained. The neighbor left their dog out in the flood for 3 days.  It was locked out and wading up and down the road trying not to drown.  Years of abuse.  It died later that year.

How about you?  Do witness animal abuse on a daily basis in your town?

I don't know what you call animal abuse, but one person in my Thai family keeps her cats locked up in a small cage and only let out ones a day, but puts them on a leash. I find it disgusting, but what would I know? I am just a Farang.

Nope.

All I've witnessed is an old lady with a white cat who she treats well.

And there's another cat from outside that comes into the grounds ... that she feeds.

Cat lover.

I'm glad I haven't seen any abuse.

Read my post

The white cat is in the apartment, not in a cage.

And it doesn't go outside because she is afraid it will run away.

But last time I checked, most people back home don't take their cats out and cats seem to be fine in apartments.

I've seen people walk their cats on a leash. Seems silly. Cats don't like to be walked.

3 malamutes in a tiled area, perhaps 15 sq. metres in front of a Bangkok town house. For 10 years, I only saw them moved when spraying the faeces off the tiles. I am surprised they did not die sooner.

My cats walk with me like dogs , no leash.

Apartment cats are sad , there is nowhere to go , nothing to do , nothing to look forward to than eating .

Lots of animal abuse though , every truck full of chickens , pigs , buffalo's.

Nah, cats are playful creatures and they can get absorbed with shadows on the wall for hours on end.

They don't need much space to move around like dogs.

You do need to play with them. I mean, any cat owner usually does enjoy playing with their cat. If you don't, there's something wrong with you.

There is no direct abuse that I've witnessed, but the dogs are not seen as pets.

If they live or die, the 'owners' seem very no plussed either way.

The MIL has had five over the last year......two died (of worms I suspect), one was run over, one looked like it had been poisoned......one has survived....so far. No one in the village would take a dog to a vet.

There are dogs with fractured legs, tumours they struggle to carry about.....the list goes on.

I have 2 cats who never leave the house. They are quite happy and part of the family. They watch my childrens hamsters through the cage. When i open the door they sit at the opening watching the birds and squirrels but never walk out. Even my Doberman who is kept outside all day comes to the doorway to lick the cats. It is not abuse to keep your pet indoors. And I agree, cats do not like to be controlled by a leash walking them. But is is not abuse to do so.

Yep, and also poisoning, as well our village drive the unwanted dogs over the mountain to the other side, and the villagers there do the same the other way, if not dropped at the temple.

Twice we had puppies dropped at our land, because farang take good care. We (me told my family) dropped them off at the village boss, and it stopped for years now.

If I followed my hearth, I would had 100 dogs or more by now, and could started tik tok dog rescue channel collecting money for food, vaccines,  nutering, building kennels, fences, and more. Im sure I could if I wanted made a decent living by now doing so.

Neighbour's cat s**its in our garden. They already lock their three-legged dog in a cage & never let him beyond the gate. We don't complain because we're afraid they'll cage the cat, too.

I walk along a klong pathway. Woman has six cats in cages, sad.

The stick beating sounds excessive. Do you expect them to keep their dogs indoors with AC?  When it floods our dogs are left outside also.  They have no problem surviving.  Weird post.
