Community Monitor Lizard Found Carrying Remains of Baby in Shocking Discovery in Samut Prakan

A deeply disturbing incident occurred on 14 May, in the Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan province, when a monitor lizard was discovered carrying what appeared to be the remains of a human infant in its mouth.

 

Emergency services were alerted at approximately 12:55, after a passerby spotted the large reptile clutching part of a small body near Soi King Kaew 28, in Racha Thewa sub-district. Rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation swiftly arrived at the scene to assess the situation.

 

Upon investigation, officials confirmed the remains to be that of a newborn baby. It is believed the infant had been recently abandoned. Rescue teams found the severed head and partial shoulder of the child near a building wall, while the rest of the body, including the torso and legs, was reportedly dragged underneath a structure by the monitor lizard.

The grim discovery has shocked local residents and authorities alike. Officials say the condition of the body suggests the child had been deceased for some time before being discovered by the reptile.

 

Local police have launched an urgent investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death and abandonment. Forensic experts will examine the remains to establish whether the baby was stillborn or died after birth. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area in hopes of identifying any suspects who may have been involved in discarding the body.

 

Monitor lizards, known locally as “tua ngern tua thong,” are a common sight in many parts of Thailand and can grow to significant sizes. While they are generally not aggressive to humans, they are opportunistic scavengers and are known to feed on dead flesh when available.

 

As of the latest reports, the infant’s identity remains unknown. Authorities urge anyone with information about the case to come forward.
