In a harrowing incident that has shocked Thailand, a 49-year-old man in the northern province of Lampang has been arrested for raping his 73-year-old mother in a forest by the roadside. The crime occurred on the night of May 14, in the Koh Ka district, as reported to Koh Ka Police Station by the distressed victim the following day.

 

The elderly woman recounted that after visiting a relative, her son offered to pick her up on his motorcycle. Deviating from their usual route home, he took a secluded path, citing it as a shortcut. At a supposed stop due to lack of fuel, he insisted she walk home, but she refused, citing her age. While awaiting rescue from another relative, the son violently dragged her into the forest and assaulted her.

 

Despite her desperate pleas for mercy, her son continued the attack, even pressing down on her chest to the point of near suffocation. Her fears of possibly dying were only alleviated by the timely arrival of her relatives.

 

The perpetrator, a repeat offender with a history of drug-related arrests and other criminal activities, had only been out of prison for two years. His mother had been living under the constant threat of his erratic behaviour. Determined to seek justice, she insisted officials pursue the case vigorously.

 

Police swiftly apprehended the suspect after the complaint. In his defence, he claimed intoxication as the reason for his horrific actions.

 

The assault has incited public outrage, with online communities expressing fury and suggesting the man be charged with the death penalty, perceiving him as a significant danger to society, especially since he committed such a heinous act against his own mother. Authorities have yet to announce the legal consequences for the suspect. As the case unfolds, it underscores the urgent need for addressing both domestic violence and the associated societal issues.

Perhaps, his intention was rape. It seemed planned to do what he did. Maybe he was unable to become functional to actually commit the act though. Either way, I have read many times from AN members that even if no penetration happens it is still construed as rape. So this should not be a questionable thought here.
