At 7:30 p.m. on May 18, authorities responded to a mysterious fire that severely damaged a luxury car in the Nong Mai Daeng subdistrict, Mueang district, Chon Buri province. The Mueang Chon Buri Police and emergency services, including two fire engines and the Trai Khunatham rescue team, arrived to find a BMW X3, bearing the license plate 9 กล 7928 registered in Bangkok, engulfed in flames.

The fire reportedly started in the engine compartment and quickly spread throughout the vehicle. It took firefighters over 30 minutes to fully extinguish the blaze, which required moving the vehicle out of the premises to ensure complete dousing.

Rieng, the homeowner, explained that the BMW belonged to his son, who was not home at the time of the incident. Rieng and his wife were the only occupants of the house. According to Rieng, the fire erupted while he was resting, with the flames visibly spreading from the engine to the interior of the diesel-powered car. Despite attempts by Rieng and his neighbours to control the fire using water, their efforts proved ineffective, prompting an urgent call to the fire department for help.

The police have initiated an investigation and plan to involve forensic experts to determine the exact cause of the fire, which is essential for any subsequent legal actions. The mysterious nature of the blaze has raised concerns, and authorities aim to provide clarity through their ongoing inquiries.

Maybe BMWs aren't built as well as people thought?

Quick Google brings astonishing facts from German news

Since 2018 300'000 BMW cars had been called to the service shops for fire risk.

Almost all Diesel Cars of 2021 and 2022 had been recalled!

"Remarkable"

The problem reports are all about Diesel models while the general reliability statistics are excellent..

A call to BMW might help.

Ask about coolant fluid dripping from faulty "AGR coolers". AGR is some  strange system of blowing exhaust back to the intake pipe. All about reducing exhaust.

Whether they install this in Thai assembled models?

EGR, Exhaust Gas Recirculator.

Not as well built as they were 30 plus years ago.

I gather that is the same for Mercedes.

If no one had been driving the car prior as implied and it was just sitting parked its unlikely it would spontaneously combust. Maybe want to check and see who he owes money to and hasnt paid.
