Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is set to make a significant reappearance on the public stage with a keynote speech tackling international drug crimes.

Scheduled for 27th May, Thaksin will present at the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) in Din Daeng, focusing on the theme “Drug Trafficking: Cross-Border Crime Perspectives and the Challenges of Sustainable Solutions.”

This announcement follows a period of silence after Thaksin's raised profile in recent court proceedings. Earlier, he was involved in a Supreme Court hearing regarding his time spent in a police hospital. His forthcoming speech aims to address the complex challenges posed by cross-border drug trafficking and explore sustainable methods to combat these issues.

Thaksin's speech is part of a broader initiative coinciding with a vital assembly of the task force dedicated to the prevention, suppression, and resolution of drug problems in Thailand. This group, comprising government officials and law enforcement agencies, gathers on the same day to discuss ongoing efforts and refine strategies to enhance their impact against narcotics-related activities.

Thaksin is anticipated to discuss the importance of international cooperation and innovative policy-making to curb the rise of drug trafficking. His views are expected to stir considerable interest, given his previous governmental roles and the gravity of the drug-related problems facing the region.

Pleased to see you don't really dislike the guy and what he stands for 😊

The gall of this guy ! Thaksin has yet to be called to account for the thousands of people killed in his 'war on drugs' during his tenure as PM, the majority of whom were entirely innocent.

I knew that the extra judicial killings in Thaksin’s first government would prompt the haters to point at Mr T.

Pity they don’t acknowledge that Mr T was spoken to by one who cannot be named and told that “something must be done “.

Rock and a hard place.

What a joke! Thaksin enriched himself through drug trafficking in the early 2000s. He gunned down all the competition, regardless of whether women or children were among them.

sure, why not... bring back his shoot first ask questions later... wonderful solution. This guy... just doesnt know when to shut up... thing is -- he will never be held accountable

Title of keynote address:

Drug Crimes and the Benefits of Extrajudicial Killings.

"Thaksin to attempt to shift attention from himself and onto foreigners (as usual) during keynote speech."

The problem with that strategy is that the some in the military and the police allegedly used the suppression activity to eliminate political "rivals" and advocates of social reform. In other cases, innocent people were killed.

Nonsense. There is no evidence to support your claim.  He did not gun down anyone. The   drug cartels had taken control of parts of the country and had corrupted local officials including the police. It was a bonafide  insurrection funded by the  drug syndicates. It was similar to what was seen in Columbia and Mexico. The  military  was heavy handed, but this was a  do or die  situation. The failure was on the part of the military to  oversee and manage the  operation  effectively. Thaksin had to work with  what he had, and unfortunately, the  Thai military of that era was not well trained in fighting narco terrorists.

All fully sanctioned by Thaksin.

He was not 'spoken to by one who cannot be named', but even if your comment was correct it does not account for the innocent people killed.

There is a big difference between "something must be done" and the slaughter perpetrated on many innocent people including children far removed from any involvement with the drug trade - and did it stop the drug trade - no, it didn't.

As a human he makes me sick. More like a cockroach.
