A former Honolulu chief of police publicly discouraged home self defense.  She is no longer the chief.

That sounds more political than logical or sensible.

Move away from Isaan. It's a backward place. What's the point of owning a cheap giant house, but living in a place with a backward mentality?

Call the police.  Corporal punishment has been made "illegal" in Thailand. Good luck!

Gun ownership in japan is very limited.

Could there be a connection there?

Politically, Hawaii is an anti-gun state, but realistically, AFAIK, most of the population is not.

Hunting for feral pigs, goats, axis deer and sheep is quite popular.

Lot of reasons crime is lower there, from the lack of gun ownership, a more homogeneous people, a better justice system, and a death penalty by hanging. rape is still a problem there, as is cybercrime, trafficking and theft. White collar crimes are increasing.

It appears that the Hawaiians use their guns for hunting as well as recreation while over on the mainland, the indigenous pack heat before getting the shopping in at Costco.

Not to mention a generous slathering of whataboutery too.

So maybe American exceptionalism is a myth after all.

You do not think it is part of the genetic base who was willing to sacrifice everything and just jump onboard on a ship for a new life. They are more willing to fight for their rights, and do whatever it takes to reach it?

Then add to much weapons and a unfair system for those who do not succeed in life. It is the biggest  mix of cultures and genetics maybe in the whole history of humanity.

What some can't seem to understand, is that Americans aren't a group of their own, but all countries in one place, which means all those cultures, nationalities, races and creeds in one place, trying to get along. Of course conflicts will rise because some are prejudiced or racist, and make problems for the rest of us.

When you put the whole world in one place, it can be the most powerful weapon we have. That some are power hungry and in charge doesn't help the masses. It's the greatest country on earth, as it is the whole earth in one place.

Racism is one of the most natural human behavior, and I have no problem to understand where American mentality coming from at all, as my previous post indicates.

It is a problem when Americans becomes their own worst enemy, and not unlike any other Empire that grew out of their own lines and boarder’s to long and experience economic stagnation

Again, American mentality comes from all cultures and peoples in one place. It isn't just one nationality in charge all over America, but a combination of all. racism is a taught behavior, from parents who were the same, or a lack of parents involved so the person looks for other role models, some of them being the worst kind imaginable.

😂😂😂 Oh my, that needs some backing up. Is that just your "feeling" or can you, in any way, justify that statement? 🤔

Oh my,

For one you claim to have studied psychology for 35 years, you do not know much do you. You are to fixated in being politically correct. Racism and fear for foreigners is in our dna, and with right thinking of everything foreigners could bring to the table of pandemics, illnesses as well cultural differences leading to conflicts. We are trained and reached it is wrong since we are kids. Some kids are mor outgoing than others, but the norm for kids, is to be afraid of foreigners especially if family is not close by. Same goes for animals, and we are animals, do not forget that.

In prehistoric times, being cautious of unfamiliar groups could have been advantageous for survival, as they might have posed threats of violence, resource competition, or disease

Yes, I actually do know quite a bit, Others opinions can be contradictory because it's them that hasn't done the research. We are what we're taught to be. prejudice comes from certain individuals, who pass it down to their children. Some are acquired by environment beyond the familiar household. You can have people prejudiced and with fear of foreigners, and right next door, same nationality, creed and race, and they could have none of this. No child is born a racist. ...................https://thereader.mitpress.mit.edu/how-children-acquire-racial-biases/

The no kids is born racist is because we have or had good times with surplus resources and lived in a stable environment for a few decades, and see what’s going on right now, how easily things turns the other way around.

Hitler Germany couldn’t be possible without the true hate and racism within us, that easily cultivated as quick there is triggered by survival mode, either real threats or not.

Instincts easily triggered by false propaganda

Ditto.

Unfortunately, the situation in Hawaii isn't much better than the mainland USA.  Gun crimes here are increasing at an a alarming rate.

I stopped beating mine as soon as they were big enough to hit back.
