She also urged the public to report any future reckless driving to help prevent accidents and injuries.

just go driving for 5 minutes and you'll see endless reckless driving but somehow this is the thing that pushed them over the edge? Given how every other law is ignored it's no surprise the Russian thinks he can do whatever he wants.

Mr. Ivan was formally charged with:

Reckless driving causing potential danger to others, punishable by up to one year in prison, a fine of 5,000–20,000 baht, or both.

Driving in a manner likely to cause harm to persons or property, which carries a fine of up to 4,000 baht.

In addition, police have contacted immigration authorities with a recommendation to revoke Mr. Ivan’s visa and deport him, citing Section 12(7) of the Immigration Act. The provision allows for expulsion of individuals deemed a threat to public order or safety.

Superintendent Pattana Robroo emphasised, “Public spaces are not racetracks. Dangerous driving that endangers the public or disturbs the peace will not be tolerated and will be met with strict legal consequences.”

Wow.  Imagine if they took it this seriously with Thai people.  They'd have the roads safe within a week.

Seems this guy is yet another victim of the "But I saw Thai people doing it, so I thought I could too" delusion.

Fine him the maximum, put him in jail for a month and revoke his licenses in Thailand for 2 years.Deporting is a bit over the top if this is his first brush with the law but if it happens again put him on a plane marked for Putin.

Hello

Apart from being very close to 2 small roads in which there are a lot of small thai houses + a local dispensary/hospital where employees have their dormitories, it is right in front of a big thai marine building.. + at the side of Baan Somprasong condominium which is right on the beach..

In some countries law admits confiscating the "tool" which has been used to commit an offence.. in this case the car.. if belongs to me.. but seems a big punishment for me

The guy seems like a decent guy when he speaks with the police officer.. he surely acted like an idiot and maybe was drunk (which is not an excuse but at the contrary a second offence when driving.. if unknown for anything else should get his immigration status checked (lots of russians are around and I wonder how so many "young" people get a visa to stay here for months) and a heavy fine should be a sufficient punishment.. first and last chance given to him

Deport ing him for some night noise nuisance seems a bit heavy to me.. there is no legal punishment for being an idiot.. maybe a one night stupidity.. !!

Have a good day

Yeah, driving one o' them high-powered 3 series diesels in a completely abandoned parking lot.

and also at peak busy time at 1AM.     ......   surely the death penalty is called for ....

oh my buddha!   what a pack of old fuddie duddies we've got here on this forum!

get out & live a bit (while you still can)

this lad was having a bit of fun in his diesel car at 1am in an empty car park  - give him a break!

Sounded  like a recommendation,

anyway as I said perhaps the police have found that he is a serial donutter,or some other heinous criminal but they have only mentioned the donutting

and we now agree that deportation for such a crime seems a bit harsh.

Yeah,

Let's just hang, draw and quarter him and send him home in pieces in case he's tempted to come back and donut again.

Agreed, after hanging, drawing and quartering, drag his divided corpse on multiple ropes behind the BMW and do donuts around the deserted car park to provide swift justice and proof of a ' crackdown ' by the BIB.

The danger posed in a deserted car park was far less than the average everyday driving seen on the roads here every day. Half a donut is not drifting. Nor is the smallest size diesel engine BMW’ produce " high power". Pathetic overreaction re revoking visa.

I suspect some conditions come along with getting a Permission of Stay, or an extension of it, surely behaving oneself is one of those and respecting the local laws. Break those terms and the 'visa' can be revoked. The deflection to the locals is not relevant, we have enough scofflaws in the country!

Getting deported for a minor infraction is disproportionate. How about deporting for not wearing a helmet? How about being over the drink drive limit. Both of those are more dangerous than a donut in these circumstances.

Not about danger per se, more about being  an entitled scofflaw.

In your world he would have to hit a few people before his actions are punished, in mine I would like to pre-empt that happening.  Deportation would usually come with a criminal prosecution, but I agree drunk driving should be included too.

Usually, it’s local teens on motorbikes with modified exhaust systems.
Maybe they should be imprisoned too?

Why not?

Yes deport and send him to the front, he is young enough to fight against the "evil West"
