On Wednesday, the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) showcased a combat readiness exercise performed by the 211th Squadron from Wing 21 in Ubon Ratchathani, featuring their formidable F-5TH fighter jets. The announcement came through a Facebook post shortly after a border skirmish between Thai and Cambodian forces in the Chong Bok area at around 5.45am.

 

The RTAF's message stressed the continuous air combat and ground attack training conducted by the 211th Squadron. This ongoing preparation ensures the squadron is ready to respond to national security threats that may necessitate air power to protect Thailand's sovereignty and maintain public peace.

 

An RTAF insider noted that the air force is equipped to handle any situation that arises. The latest exercise is part of a routine training schedule designed to simulate real combat scenarios, allowing the forces to remain vigilant and adept in potential conflict zones.

 

This proactive approach underscores the RTAF's commitment to safeguarding national interests amid ongoing regional tensions. And I thought these planes were ready for the museums years ago!! Oh dear me....flying disasters....

My greatest fear that's kept me up nights since living in Thailand, an invasion from Cambodia. 

 

Now, finally, I can rest easy 

If the PMs and the governments of Cambodia and Thailand are trying to calm the border situation down, why is the Thai military ramping things up with troop reinforcements and more aircraft patrolling the area?

Yes, a couple of nights ago, about midnight, we heard what I assumed were jet fighters cruising low over our mountain home near Phetchabun. They must have been very low because they were not only very loud, but their engines caused some of the windows in our house to vibrate.
