Putin didn’t budge in Ukraine peace talks. Now Donald Trump may be forced to act

The "negotiations" went nowhere, just as everyone expected, as Russia don't want a ceasefire in the first place. So what will Trump do? Full on TACO, or will the humongous loss of face following such a move force him to actually do something?

My prediction is that there will be TACO. The only way it's not happening is if the GOP in the senate threatens his deficit exploding bill if he doesn't grow a pair.

"Russia has shown itself to be particularly uncompromising, handing Ukrainian negotiators a memorandum re-stating its maximalist, hardline terms which would essentially amount to a Ukrainian surrender.

Expectations were always low for a Kremlin compromise, but Moscow appears to have eliminated any hint of a readiness to soften its demands.

The Russian memorandum again calls on Ukraine to withdraw from four partially occupied regions that Russia has annexed but not captured: a territorial concession that Kyiv has repeatedly rejected."

Trump will do nothing to upset his poodle Putin.

HOWEVEVER, more and more there is a good chance that the U.S. congress will pass a VETO PROOF bill of bone crushing sanctions on Russia (energy and finances, secondary on those dealing with Russia).

Then he can tell his poodle -- it wasn't me, dear one.

Ukraine (NATO) used up it last card  with the "historic" drone attack on Russian airfields

Russia didn't flinch and presented the surrender terms as planed.

Yes, so full-on TACO but possibly Congress can step in and salvage the last of US credibility. I guess that's the best we can hope for.

Trump was there to try to negotiate, so was Russia, but the Eu& UK didn't want it to stop, no doubt the US MIC either, so they have done everything possible to sabotage it, also they couldnt have trump making peace when everyone else failed to try.

Those that profit from war want war, online clowns repeat their narrarive while safe in their homes or on bar stools.

Russia doesn't want peace either.

They want to completely control Ukraine.

Their ideology can't imagine a Russia without Ukraine.

To get Russia in line, you've got to flippin' BEAT them in this war.

If that happens, that is a lot and has the potential to significantly change the momentum of this war.

The Putin propagandists here think it's only about real estate on the front lines.

Nope.

They want a Ukraine not in nato, why do you keep denying the facts.

I posted a vidoe with Jens stoltenberg saying exaclty that at a NATO summit and you refused to watch it because it was via facebook

It was clearly stated by Stotelberg that nato ignored putins offer..TWICE, its people like you allow things like this to continue due to decades of brainwashing by western media and not questioning anything.

Quoting CNN.

I can't.

How about Fox? Not much different there except the wording, and, of course, not spelling out the obvious - that the ball is now firmly in Trump's court.

The embedded video is also a good summary of the astounding and devastating attack by the Ukrainians.

Because a ceasefire just meant rearming of Ukraine.

If you think for 1 second that any of the countries propping up Ukraine are doing it for the Ukrainian people then someone should Photoshop a red nose on your profile picture.

Seems Obama letting Putin invade Ukraine all those years ago was a real ballsup. Plus the 4 years of rudderless weekend at Bidens which allowed him a re-do. Funny then that democrats are blaming Trump, who is the only recent President that did not see an invasion on his watch. The left sure are illogical beasts.

Who here is blaming Trump for the invasion of Ukraine? Or is it just Pavlovian pearl clutching?

NATO is a treaty organisation, made up from independent sovereign states, who choose to be members.

It is not for Russia to tell them what they can or cannot do, not who can be a member.

Ukraine is an independent sovereign state. It has been for the last 34 years - since 1991.

It is not for Russia to tell them what they can or cannot do, nor whether they  can be a member of NATO, or indeed of the EU.

Russia has invaded Ukraine, which I will say again, is an independent sovereign state. It seeks to defend itself against such aggression. That is the simple reality.

Yes it is.

Ukraine is in the Russian sphere of influence. As a lesser, weaker state, it has to accomodate the sensitivies of a large power like Russia.

Just as Panama faced invasion when it displeased America and sold secrets to Cuba, so Ukraine cannot do whatever it pleases when its neighbour is a large power.

Looks like you need some lessons in reality.

Looks like you're in need of a great many lessons, Cam. Russia invaded Ukraine. How is that going for them?

Splendidly, is it?

Yawn!, whatever, not going to waste time going over AGAIN about no NATO expansion East, that was agreed in the early 90's its been mentioned many times and flat out denied by the usual posse here.

They've had their programming and that's it. Some even deny words on record, spoken by the NATO chief.

Remember how hysterical the Yanks got over Russia and Cuba... but you all seem to think its fine for US weapons on Putins border. Hypocrisy and double standards at its finest from the western propaganda macnine and its useful idiots.

Trump will do nothing, he's a big bag of wind. Putin plays him like a fiddle.

He tried to browbeat Zelensky into giving in, that didn't work either.

There is a boy here stating because Ukraine is in the sphere of influence of Russia it has to accommodate the sensitivities of Russia ? No wonder you still crying your little Thai scarlet ran off. She was, after all in your sphere of influence. Now I understand your weird ramblings.

Don't worry, she came back. She was here a few days ago.
