The Thai Immigration Bureau is launching a major AI training initiative aimed at modernising its operations for the digital age. On 4th June 2025, a significant training session took place at the Immigration Bureau 2, led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Cherngron Rimpadee. The event was attended by over 100 officers at the site and broadcast live to more than 2,000 police personnel across the country.

The training, themed "Using Technology and AI to Enhance Operational Efficiency", marks a pivotal step in reforming state agencies. It seeks to prepare immigration officers for the fast-evolving technological landscape to better serve the public and tourists with greater speed and accuracy. Held at the Hyatt Regency Suvarnabhumi, the programme includes both theoretical and practical components.

Officers will gain skills in using Generative AI and digital tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, DeepL, and more for various tasks, including data analysis, language translation, and chatbot creation.

According to Pol. Maj. Gen. Cherngron, the initiative aligns with policies set by Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumas Boonyarak.

This encompasses the use of cutting-edge technology to enhance the screening of individuals entering and exiting the country, thereby bolstering public and societal confidence in investigation and enforcement efforts. The project aims to elevate Thailand's immigration services to meet global standards.

The training, spread over six weeks, features more than 30 topics and is available onsite and online, with classes occurring every Wednesday and Saturday outside regular office hours. Expert speakers, including Dr. Phraya Boonkwan from SIIT and Dr. Smith Batthararath from the National Telecommunications Public Company, provide in-depth knowledge to participants.

Preliminary surveys suggest that 88.2% of officers are keen on AI training, particularly in aspects like automatic language translation. This is crucial, as officers often interact with passengers from diverse backgrounds, requiring advanced language skills. The training will also cover document preparation using AI and in-depth data analysis.

Immigration Bureau 2 is transitioning from a traditional checkpoint to a "national security smart organisation", ready to adapt and advance in today's rapidly changing world. Public updates and results of the training can be followed through the bureau's channels, promising more efficient, clearer, and quicker services soon.

Nice…But by now  I’m TODAY on the way to immigration Office with 60 pages of documents, stack of papers and fotocopies including pics with wife smiling at cam, sitting in the bed among other things, with my serious doubt that they ask about a new rule that requires me to take a photo in the bathroom..Taking number, wait and spend half day of the trip with Police… Like I have been doing during the lasted 15 years..Like most of you.

Nobody's told them yet that within ten years there won't be any human immigration offices.

When the IO asked "why don't you have a picture in the kitchen" to renew family visa which is a good example of embracing AI 🤣🤣

Will they use any less paper copies? 😆

Will the sun rise tomorrow?

Maybe they could start to use AI instead of the 90 days report and address notifications for long term residents...

You would think if they used AI they would see the complete waste of time on about 90% of the people coming in for renewals, 90 days, TM30's, extensions, etc. Then use this new found "intelligence" to focus on the 10% of bad characters, using 90% of their resources to catch these 10% of bad characters, rather than wasting 90% of their resources on monotonous paper pushing that does nothing but waste everyone's time and add to climate change (wasted paper, fuel, traffic jams, etc). Put an end to the madness, save the planet and catch more bad guys, a WIN-WIN for everyone.

I think you need to take a sedative and have a nice lie-down.

Maybe they are trying to discourage foreigners from moving to Thailand to ensure long lasting sanity .... for the Farangs that is.....very kind of them .

Thai Immigration Bureau Embraces AI to Boost Efficiency

I agree, AI needs a hug for working with Immigration...

(they probably never even asked)

Thai Immigration Bureau Embraces AI to Boost Efficiency.

What could go wrong (it will)

Why not start with something Easy . Get rid of all the copies and paperwork ,Go Green . Tons of paper Wasted for Nothing.

All information  has been entered on computer Same All the time All the IMM has to Do is ask if Any information has changed if so they can update that on the computer.

Just show Passport for ID ,,, Done .

90 Day reporting Same ol Same ol.

Yearly Extensions  Same ol Same ol

If AI is used to replace the "document checkers" that should speed things up significantly.

In my last experience, the document checker checked all my documents, only to tell me I needed photocopies of my passport and a copy of my health insurance policy.  I pointed out to her that the latter, in Thai, was the second document and the former was the third document.

Oh.

Wait until ChatGPT hallucinates and the Thai Immigration IOs act on made-up information.

In the meanwhile, I still have to submit a ream of paper every year for an extension.

Given the topic of the thread, just curious: is the above photo an actual real photo of real Immigration officers, or perhaps just an AI creation of someone's imagination???  🙂

From what I've been seeing and reading lately, it's getting pretty darned easy to make up entirely created photos of whatever the person wants AI to create....

I hope they are aware of Google's disclaimer:-

AI responses may include mistakes.

Well, last time I was at immigration, the IO was using Google translate, plus they have a BMW with an iPad in it, so I guess they are slowly catching up to technology.
