I'm presuming there has been zero thought by the powers that be to the absolute traffic gridlock that is going to result when that condo is finished. I can see a scenario in peak season where traffic is backed up half way down the hill. Crazy they allowed something that big to be built with the infrastructure limitations.

 

Agreed...  IMO - whenever such a construction is undertaking, the developers should first be responsible for upgrading the transport infrastruction so that the 'additional traffic' generated by their project has no (little) impact...

The recent quake in Bangkok, with a Local Magnitude equivalence of 6.0 MW on the richter scale highlights how well build the buildings are....    and Pattaya has far better foundational bedrock footing than the lakebed setting of Bangkok.

 

The structural quality of the taller buildings in Thailand is not something I question - its the road networks around them that will cause the most trouble.

When lifting a load, any excessive rotational movement of the crane, especially beyond its designed operational range, can induce torsional forces within the crane’s structure. When these torsional stresses exceed the structural design limits, the instability and structural deformation can lead to such a catastrophic collapse - I wonder if this is the case here....

The recent quack did not impact even the tallest buildings of Pattaya in the slightest...   All of the buildings in Bangkok handled a 6.0 LM equivalent quake (amplified due its young sedimentary setting)... one building under-construction, not built to 'building code' and with 'counterfeit rebar' collapsed....

I'm pretty sure there is.  Probably the same in Pattaya as in Bangkok. The soi the building is on has to be a certain width or wider now if the building is going to be over 8 floors. Has to due with fire truck access and ladder heights in case of a fire. Small sois can't accommodate.

      True, it's just an assumption but certainly not a 'bizarre' one.   It's a mega project with an abundance of very small hotel-size condo units.  Some of the units are only 20 sqm, with no balcony.   We've seen in the past that a number of new mega projects in Pattaya, also with an abundance of small hotel-size condo units, did, indeed, become plagued by illegal daily renters. 

    I, personally, lived in several of these new projects and owned a rental unit in a third mega project, which had the same problem.   In my opinion, it's more 'reasonable' than 'bizarre' to assume that this could become a problem with this new project, as well.

I was thinking that only yesterday, a lot of accidents involving cranes, also minibuses, coaches and helicopters.

It was  5 stories limit if you were within 200 metres of the beach.

Several tall  beach condos found a way around  that rule .Not sure if it still applies.

Wait til they finish the 2 monsters going in on 2nd Road in Jomtien.  Copacabana 2 and another 50+ story one near immigration.  Its all over for Jomtien.
