Jan. 6 2021 - Where were Trump's Marines when the federal government needed them?

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

According to local news reports, maybe a dozen local police officers have received minor injuries thus far in the Los Angeles protests over the Trump Administration's often legally dubious immigration raids, which oftentimes have scooped up immigrants, and sometimes U.S. citizens, who were legally entitled to be in the U.S.

So, when could Trump as president have sent in the Marines -- but did NOT -- in response to more than 100 police officers being injured in a riot that was an assault on the heart of the U.S. Capitol (Congress) and the most sacred tradition in U.S. governance -- the peaceful and orderly transition of power from one president to his legally elected successor?

One episode comes to might right off the bat:

Jan. 2021 Capitol attack:

"Many people were injured, including 174 police officers. Four officers who responded to the attack died by suicide within seven months."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_6_United_States_Capitol_attack

But....

"active-duty Marines were not officially deployed to the U.S. Capitol Riot on January 6, 2021."

And when National Guard troops did finally belatedly respond to the U.S. Capitol, it was after hours of delays, in part because Trump as  the president at the time never acted.

Per the New York Times:

New testimony underscores how a critical miscommunication between top military officials contributed to a four-hour delay in deploying troops to help restore order at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021

May 7, 2024

As a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, the commanders and members of the District of Columbia National Guard waited in frustration for hours for the order to help put down the riot unfolding just minutes from where they were stationed.

...

"Complicating matters even further, Mr. Trump, who had set in motion a plan to overturn his election defeat and was sitting at the White House watching the mayhem unfold on television, never once picked up the phone during the riot to try to expedite a military response." [emphasis added]

The pro-Trump mob began assaulting police officers at the Capitol just before 1 p.m. But it took until 5:40 p.m. for the National Guard to arrive on the Capitol grounds, after the Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department had largely put down the riot."

There were Marines there that day, but they were there among the rioters ... not there protecting the U.S. Capitol:

The Jan. 6 riot included Marines. The military is wrestling with the consequences

October 26, 2024

"Some one-third of the 200 active and retired military participants arrested for their role in the Capitol attack were Marines. That’s a disproportionate number, considering the Marines are the smallest of the fighting forces."

So I guess the lesson here is...

Try to steal the U.S. presidency and foment an insurrection, and the president behind it all won't call out the Marines...

But have modest rioting (compared to past historical rioting in U.S. cities) in Los Angeles over Trump's legally flawed anti-immigrant/immigration policies, and he's going to have the U.S. military (CA National Guard and the U.S. Marines) all over it pronto...

Hypocrisy and self-interested politicking at its lowest mark.

Per the Associated Press today:

"Trump has described Los Angeles in dire terms that Mayor Karen Bass and Newsom say are nowhere close to the truth. They say he is putting public safety at risk by adding military personnel even though police say they don’t need the help.

Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said in a statement he was confident in the police department’s ability to handle large-scale demonstrations and that the Marines’ arrival without coordinating with the police department presented a “significant logistical and operational challenge” for them.

...

Newsom called the deployments reckless and “disrespectful to our troops” in a post on the social platform X.  “This isn’t about public safety,” Newsom said. “It’s about stroking a dangerous President’s ego.”

More from the NYT on Trump's inaction leading to delays in the response of the National Guard to the Jan. 6 riot:

"Under questioning from Democratic congressional staff, General Dean added that Mr. Trump could have sped up the Guard deployment had he intervened.

“He could call General Walker directly: ‘Hey, General Walker. I need you at the Capitol right now,’” General Dean said.

“And did that happen?” he was asked. “No,” he replied."

"Zoom in: LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said in response to the announcement that the department had received "no formal notification" about the Marines' arrival in LA.

  • "The possible arrival of federal military forces in Los Angeles — absent clear coordination — presents a significant logistical and operational challenge for those of us charged with safeguarding this city," the police chief said in a statement.

  • He said LAPD and it partners are confident in their ability to manage the large-scale demonstrations, and urged for open and continuous lines of communications between all agencies to "prevent confusion" and "avoid escalation."

'Repeat offender': California AG Rob Bonta on suing Trump over National Guard deployment

California Attorney General Rob Bonta:

"So what the Trump administration has done here is unnecessary. It's not constructive. It's harmful. It has only led to inflame tensions and provoke, as opposed to calm and create peace.

And most importantly, it's unlawful, which is why we brought the Trump administration to court for the 24th time in 20 weeks today for violating the law. He is a repeat offender when it comes to breaking the law, violating the Constitution, and we will be resolute, immovable and unapologetic in our commitment to ensure that the president of the United States of America only does [sic] unlawful things and is not allowed to break the law or violate the Constitution."

LAPD chief speaks out about deployment of military forces to anti-ICE protests

Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass held a joint news conference Monday on the deployment of military forces to the city as protests over immigration raids continued. "I see two parallel tracks that don't work together, if you will," McDonnell said.

But I'm not surprised that the Marines are getting a slow start given the number of paid agitators who will be trying to goad them into doing something to make the administration look bad.

The administration is doing what they promised.  (At least to the extent that activist judges and paid agitators are allowing them.)

That's why people voted for them.  Why they won every swing state.  And even the popular vote.

Look up the history of 1920s Italy & 1930s Germany. False flags, provocation from the authorities and yes admittedly violent overreaction by a few dumb mfs who were “protesting” and sucked into the scenario that Trump was looking for.
I wake up every day and thank whoever that I am not an American. The Banana Republic of America is sleepwalking into a dystopian nightmare of authoritarian rule. It’s going to be fascinating to see what the maga warriors on here have to say after a few more years of trumpenomics and uncivil liberty.

And just what was that insurrectionist doing when she got shot?I will enlighten you she was attempting to force he way into the congressional chambers to get her claws on our lawmakers as the crowd was chanting hang Mike pence and trump was sitting on his big Mack chortling and egging them on…..you are off the deep end yagoda full of it as usual

It is amusing the leftist pretend they don't know that both Nancy Pelosi and the head of the Park Police (her name escapes me) both refused, in writing, Trump's offer of National Guard troops.

So, are you leftists lying and pretending the lack of National Guard troops, was Trump's fault, or are you are so stupid and uniformed you really do not know this?

In any event, you howled and moaned about a lack of troops for Jan 6, now you're howling and moaning about troops being sent in.

Pelosi was offered national guard, but she turned it down, and also her daughrer just happened to be making a documentary about J6 before it even happened...

But but Trump

Yes of course it was...... nothing to do with removing illegals and criminals.... but guess as a BLM fan, you support them.

Morally bankrupt.
