One survivor found on seat 11A of aircraft, says top cop

 

This is currently being reported by most Indian media, saying that Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik is reported as saying;

 

"The police found one survivor from seat 11A. One survivor has been found and is under treatment.  The death toll may increase as the flight crashed in a residential area,"

This is being reported by Sky News.

 

“A British man who claims to have survived the crash in Ahmedabad has described the moment the plane went down.

 

According to Sky News' partner network NDTV, Ahmedabad's police commissioner said one passenger survived the crash. NDTV names him as British-Indian man Vishwash Kumar Ramesh.

 

Speaking to the Hindustan Times newspaper, Ramesh said he heard a "loud noise" around 30 seconds after take-off before the plane went down.

 

"It all happened so quickly," he said, adding he had received "impact injuries" on his chest, eyes and feet.

 

"When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital."

 

He told Indian media he had lived in London for 20 years. He said that his brother Ajay was seated in a different row on the plane. “

Tata Group, which owns Air India, says it will give 1 crore rupees – the equivalent of around $117,000, to the families of each person who was killed in the crash.

 

It will also cover the medical expenses of those injured and provide support for rebuilding the medical hostel that was hit.

 

"No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment," it says in a statement posted on X.

I don't think so. I think it was dust blown up by the engine as the aircraft rotated.

 

But to me there is now no doubt that the flaps were not set to 'take off' position. The aircraft stalled about 12 seconds after take off.

I didn't see a puff of smoke. Watched a few times maybe I'm missing it. What I see is what appears to be a complete loss of thrust from both engines. One engine is enough to take off.

I reckon you're right. Flaps do not seem to be set for take off. I also saw somewhere that the take off speed at rotation may have been a bit low but flaps not being set for take off is enough in and of itself to cause a stall and that sure appears to be what happened.

The false claims are annoying. There is no evidence of this being an aircraft structural issue. There are suggestions of engine failure, in engines which are not manufactured by Boeing because of a visible lack of thrust, and suggestions of pilot error because of  flap position, and again because of a lack of thrust.  Air India has a history of allegations of  deficient  maintenance of its aircraft. If  one goes by the   general condition of the  Air India cabins, it is not unreasonable to suspect general maintenance.

Until the flight data recordings are analyzed, nothing is certain, so why speculate? Due to conflict with Pakistan and the proximity of the airport to Pakistan, I anticipate social media to be flooded with claims of  terrorism. To those  promoting  the claim that Boeing is unsafe, the B787  until this event  had never had a fatal  incident, nor catastrophic crash.

Your unfounded bias serves no purpose. Most airline crashes are a result of pilot error, weather and general maintenance deficiencies, not aircraft structural defect. If you are concerned, then avoid all aircraft travel.

Your claim is unfounded. Aside from the initial tragedies, the aircraft since its return to service has one of the safest operating records. It is a heavily surveilled aircraft. The aircraft  is such a failure that  Boeing had a backlog of 5,943  737 MAX aircraft, according to Reuters. This backlog includes 303 new orders booked in May 2025.   Boeing has delivered 164  737 MAXes, in 2025 .

The airline leasing companies and the airlines have a different opinion than you. How is it you know more than they do?

According to you these customers who signed purchase agreements in 2025 are wrong;

Singapore-based leasing company BOC Aviation - 50

Japan Airlines -17

Korean Airlines -20 

Now that the tariff issue is on hold with the USA, China is again taking delivery of B737 Max and  a new  aircraft landed in China on June 10.    Qatar and United took delivery of their aircraft last month too. 

And so on. Everyone in the airline industry has it wrong.

It would have to be both captain and first officer making that error as both have responsibility and flap function is checked or should be prior to take-off yet it sure looks like as @Moonlover said they were not extended and set for take-off. It's definitely strange and in an aircraft model that's been accident free prior to this.

Is it just me but are you guys seeing any flaps?usually it’s very pronounced and easy to spot its hard to tell if they are deployed or perhaps only partially deployed.what an absolute bummer just tragic……

I was just on a call with my Indian coworkers and one of the guys said it crashed not too far from him but near a hospital.

 

Flying is either perfectly safe or catastrophically  dangerous.

 But it was  787-Dreamliner and initial suggestions imply incorrect flaps on takeoff resulting stall... (not my interpretation, just what others are suggesting)....

Good video, they took off in ground effect and lost lift once out of ground effect.
