The Medical Council of Thailand has reaffirmed its commitment to disciplinary measures against three doctors involved in the contentious transfer of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra from prison to hospital. This decision, announced today, overturns a previous veto by Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsutin, reflecting the council's determination to uphold its earlier stance.

Professor Dr. Prasit Wattanapha, Vice President of the Medical Council, confirmed that a two-thirds majority vote maintained the resolution originally passed on May 8, 2025. The resolution called for suspending the medical licenses of two senior doctors at Police General Hospital, accusing them of exaggerating Mr. Thaksin's medical condition to justify his prolonged hospital stay. Additionally, a doctor from the Corrections Department Hospital received a formal warning for her alleged misuse of authority in the transfer process.

Out of 69 eligible members, 68 participated in the vote, underscoring the council's unified position. This decisive vote paves the way for the issuance of a binding order to enforce these disciplinary actions.

The council’s steadfast decision highlights the importance of accountability and ethical standards in medical practice, particularly concerning high-profile cases. As the next steps unfold, the Medical Council's actions serve as a reminder of the essential role of regulatory bodies in maintaining the integrity of healthcare services in Thailand.

Looks like the Medical Council is serious about keeping things fair, even with big names involved. It’s good they’re holding doctors accountable instead of just letting things slide. Hopefully, this sets a solid example for transparency in healthcare.

How about holding Thaksin accountable?  For some reason, call me a skeptic, but it would be interesting to run a check on the financial holdings of all of these doctors.

They probably have shares in neck brace and arm sling companies.

So now Minister Somsak should resign - yea I know a fat chance  😎

Serial defrauderTaksin - who didn’t receive the most votes- enjoying the limelight again. Do you ever wake up in the morning, Thailand and think the system is broken - or is this just par for the course? If you stop to think- actually Thai politics would make a great reality tv show…..if we can find some rich Musk or other to just outspend on the next election… just take it over and make it entertaining…if it can’t be functional then make it entertainment… that would be the honest route…

If the doctors are guilty then so is Thaksin of lying, and his PM daughter of covering up for him.

Well done, didn't bow to pressure from above.

Amazing  day in Thailand!

At least SOME people in some authority are actually held accountable for once. How often does that ever happen here?

Color me skeptical.... but I have to wonder still..... if all this won't be undone somehow in the end...  😞

And yes, the public health minister ought to go too... not just because he's a political crony  who was serving his master as always, but because he doesn't belong in the job, period!

If they have evidence to suggest these doctors behaved unethically enough to have medical licenses removed there must be evidence to suggest thaksin was faking the severity of his condition to avoid a return to prison. If the doctors did it then why? They big fans of the ex pm and willing to sacrifice all for him or was money exchanged or increases in position offered?  Still too many unanswered questions

Somsak Thepsutin is he going to be investigated further? He is a phue Thai party politician who stepped in to quash a medical council decision that would put the leader of his party under further scrutiny.

So the doctors will be punished and nothing will happen to Tony the Don of XPM’s of Thailand this is almost exciting as a Red Bull kid he’s never served not even an hour in the police station or jail but all the cops are investigating them they had problems you think that they could get the Red Bull kit back here and then I’m service time of the fixes in on that one too he’ll come back when all the charges have expired TIT

Now  that they are going to Discipline  the Docs  Could it be (NAH ) that Thaksin has to do his time in JAIL?

No fear too much Money Here.

How can they blame the Doctors ?

when one of the richest and most influential people in the country tell you what you need you do or else……..what can you say ? They would have lost their jobs immediately , there’s only one person to blame in this corrupt side show and we all know who that is !

Lying and covering up have been established US policy based on recent presidential behavior, albiet not officially autopenned.

The aircraft is all fueled up ready to go just in case things turn for the worse once again other people’s lives ruined due to pressure put on them maybe they need to come out and tell what really took place

I'm not in the slightest bit interested in the USA, this thread is about Thailand
