Trump Shifts Deportation Focus, Pausing Raids on Farms, Hotels and Eateries

But that was obvious from  the start. Trump did not anticipate anything and/or made empty promises.

When we discussed it on AN, the MAGA crowd was full steam claiming that it would be no problem, that they would be replaced by US workers, etc.... 😆

And now more ridiculous TACO! 🤣

So increase the number of veggie-picker and meatpacker visas, make it a simple process to apply, and require EMPLOYERS to post a significant cash bond to ensure their LEGAL temporary employees pay all required taxes and leave when their contract/visa expires.

This isn't rocket science.  No Musk required.

Sorry but possibly more than 20 million crossing the border in four years hasn't been happening for decades.

Trump Admin official figures mention 11 million in past four years. Then you would have overstayers entering by air.

In total, CBP recorded approximately 11 million border encounters over the course of Biden’s four years.

All the more reason to nab them where it's easiest to find them. Places like hotels, restaurants and farms.

Exactly! It's like shooting fish in a barrel!

Careful with those government statistics, Eugene!

Encounters means illegals that the border patrol actually come in contact with, which is a small subset of the universe of illegal border crossers.

If ya don't see 'em, ya can't contact 'em, so ya don't count 'em.

Publicizing "encounters" instead of "illegal crossings" lets them bigly underestimate the number.

Illegal crossing have is what I am getting at. Just the fact that its been going on for so long.

Maybe you think sacrificing jobs for Americans is crafty. I'm an American and I think it stinks.

Again this is a political move. Deportations will continue but measures may be put in place to fast track paperwork for those undocumented working in the above mentioned sectors. As for actual illegal aliens my guess is they'll still get deported. Need to wait and see as this is only new.

Agree. Illegal crossings have always happened but not 20 odd million over four years.

If they're here that means that they violated the law. That makes them criminals. He should round them up wherever it's easiest to find them. Who cares how long they have lived here? Get as many out as you can any way you can.

Make them legally tax paying citizens.

Much easier and cheaper and creating billions of taxes.

That's quite likely. However, those caught and expelled often retry later and are counted several times.

No matter what the actual number is be it 10 million or 20 million it's huge. According to AI the number of new arrivals between 2000 and 2010 total was just under 14 million and just over 11 million for 2010-2019.

Speaking as an American, I can pretty much guarantee that most Americans are not interested in taking most of the jobs currently being held by the various undocumented workers from foreign countries.

Have you ever tried picking lettuce in the fields day in and day out for 12 hours a day?  How about cleaning the toilets and mopping the floors in a hotel?  Or washing the dishes in a restaurant day in and day out?

You wanna go to America and apply for those kinds of jobs?

If the pay was good enough. That's why we need to get these criminals out, So that Americans can get a living wage doing these jobs.

Quick!  Have Trump send in the Marines on this one too... Obviously Americans wanted these jobs but the railroad industry wouldn't give them!!!  Back then it was Chinese immigrants. Today it's immigrants from Mexico, Central and South America, etc. etc.

The Chinese Railroad Workers (1865 — 1869)

From 1865-1869, 12,000 Chinese immigrants constructed the western section of the transcontinental railroad – one of the greatest engineering feats in American history. Their efforts, which connected the western United States to the eastern United States, laid the foundation for the extraordinary economic prosperity enjoyed by the United States in the years that followed. Many of these workers risked their lives and perished during the harsh winters and dangerous working conditions. They faced prejudice, low wages and social isolation. Despite these challenges, they courageously took a stand to organize for fairer wages and safer working conditions. Their efforts not only bridged our nation together, they advanced the cause of good, safe jobs for all workers, immigrant and native workers alike. [emphasis added]

"Chinese laborers made up roughly 80% of the workforce of the Central Pacific Railroad company, yet their contributions to the Transcontinental Railroad are often overlooked. They faced harsher work conditions and lower pay than their White counterparts.

Got news for the MAGA types here -- America was BUILT in many ways through the decades on the backs of hard work by immigrants from many different countries, undocumented and otherwise.... And that's not even getting to the black slaves from Africa that were imported to what became the U.S. to work the fields and serve as domestic help as slaves for many decades.

To try to deny that is simply to ignore the immigration history of the U.S.

I understand that the complaints from the food and restaurants sector are being led by Taco Bell!

Rumour has it that they have suspended his loyalty programme membership. McDonald's, in a show of solidarity, are considering similar actions - oh the horror!

That's an easy fix.

Cut off a finger prior to release.

They won't try more'n ten times.

Or at least forehead branding....

Pretty much standard for most western countries. It's immigrants who do these jobs because the pay is crap and the work is hard. Thing is the immigrants who do do these jobs should be in the country legally.

Trump's been busy cutting off / reducing available visas to foreign nationals... and the visas that are available typically are not available to low-skilled workers who would be doing so-called menial jobs.

So it's a strawman's argument.... unless Trump and Co. are going to come forward with another round of "earning a path toward legalization" or temporary worker visas for service sector employees... And I haven't been hearing any of that from the Trump Admin lately...

Until perhaps....

US immigration officials told to largely pause raids on farms, hotels, NYT reports

"June 13 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump's administration has told immigration officials to largely pause raids and arrests in the agricultural industry, hotels and restaurants, the New York Times reported on Friday.
The report cited an internal email and three U.S. officials with knowledge of the guidance.

"Effective today, please hold on all work site enforcement investigations/operations on agriculture (including aquaculture and meat packing plants), restaurants and operating hotels,” Tatum King, a senior official at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said in guidance to regional leaders of the department, the Times added."
...
The report comes after Trump said on Thursday he would issue an order soon to address the effects of his immigration crackdown on the country's farm and hotel industries, which rely heavily on migrant labor." [emphasis added]

So it's typical Trump non-governance... Create chaos and disruption, then reverse course, and try to find ways to mend or undo all the chaos and disruption he has just created... YEESH!!!

As I previously stated the system is overwhelmed with bogus asylum applications from the millions that came across the "open border".  It's incredible that some simply will not blame the Biden/Harris administration for what has transpired. Trump basically shut the border tight within his first 100 days. Biden and Harris left them virtually open for four years. The "chaos" you speak of has been manufactured by the Democrats. To deny this is simply folly.

The "chaos" is all of Trump's creation."  To deny this is simply folly, as the reports below make clear:

This is what the libtards have been claiming and those of us in MAGA have been calling cr#p. If decent wages are offered for these jobs Americans will come running to fill them. The reason employers get away with bad pay is because illegals got no leverage. Get them out of the country and fill those jobs with real Americans.

Not sure about "real Americans" mate but people who are in the country legally sure. Should be massive fines for employers hiring illegals but that ain't going to happen.
