But of course if all you know of Thailand is Nana, Walking Street and Patong, then you may come to that conclusion.

Bangkok (Nana) Pattaya (WS) and Phuket (Patong) are the three biggest tourist areas.

Thailand has short-time hotels and although mainly used by locals, foreigners can use them as well if they don't want to use their own hotel.

The RTP will mount strong opposition to this idea for obvious reasons.

No, they are not. Who ever goes to thouse places want to see Prostitutes. Either because they want to rent one, or because they are curious. But most tourists come for other reasons to Thailand and they get to the places they want without having to go to Pattaya, Patong or Nana.

In Europe, if you go to De Wallen (Amsterdam) or to Reeperbahn (Hamburg), you know what you will see. So you go there because you want to see what's going on there. But nobody forces you to do it. Same for Thailand. So your statement is just nonsense.

Also, there are already brothels, which (besides the deep South), are mostly frequented by local johns...

There are certainly ban sao in the four Southern provinces, fully stocked. What's interesting to me has always been that sex workers anywhere in Thailand are not working in their own areas. Thus, the sex workers ub the South are mostly from Isaan and, no, they are not halal.

If Thailand were to "legalize" brothels, it would a: cause such a shameful advertisement for the country and b: "brothels" or ( places offering prostitution services), would be in your face on every street corner like weed shops.

Follow the Fairy Lights....

Why would they do something that stupid, and derail their gravy train.  Illegality keeps the prices and profits high..   Keeps the extreme riff raff out, as if you could scrape the bottom of the barrel any more.

The corrupt are flush with cash & happy.   Leave things just the way they are, as keeps us folks the don't participate, off the radar, and enjoying our comfy lifestyle.

Instead of NANA, Cowboy, Khaosan, Patpong and a lot of other bars LOL

I may not seem ike a brothel in the same light as chicken ranches or the houses in Germany but the only diference between Bunny or Stumble Inn and a chicken ranchis that you do not get the roomon sight.

Then again, if you go to Penthouse they have the bar and the rooms in the same building and even provide a swing

could call it Poo Ying Panda.Or Poo Chai Panda for THOSE That bat for the other side.....

It should be legal in each and every country, including Thailand. So, it's a YES from me of course.

Even in TH, if only have sex (P4P) 10 times a month, that far exceeds my monthly living expense.

2.5 times a month.. I would go crazy. Must have 4 -6 times a week.. I guess I am lucky i do not need to pay those ridiculous prices.

Would it make much difference?

Not much.  I think most sex tourists and 'sexpats' will still prefer the barfining model, or using "massage" services, or just calling up a girl online.

Apart from the gogo bars of Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy and Patpong, there are several brothels in Bangkok called Soapy Massage Parlors or Gentlemen's Clubs. They are located at Petchaburi Road, Huai Kwang, Ratchadaprisek Road, Sukhumvit 24, Saphan Kwai, Mengiai, Pratcha Uthrid Road, Thonglor-Ekamai, etc.

Every taxi or tuk-tuk driver knows very well where they are located and will be able to take you there without any problem.

Every country has prostitutes. But you don’t really notice them much.

But in Thailand family holiday makers are constantly exposed to them.

And the government claims that they don’t want to have that reputation.

The problem with the bar fine and take out rule is that we end up with hundreds of monger-prostitute pairs out in public, and it is very obvious.

I think most of us don’t like that registering the prostitute at reception procedure at the hotel sometimes having to queue up amongst family groups who are also checking in at the same time with the mother and daughters giving you the stink eye and the dad and sons having a perve.

And then again at the breakfast buffet the next morning.
And then again around the pool when Lek from Issan decides she wants to go swimming and makes a scene nearly drowning.

Legalized brothels would also allow these Dads to sneak off for a discreet servicing with confidence he wouldn’t get caught or seen by the wife and kids doing the dash in public to the short time room.

Thai women have an international reputation for this because mongers are seen in public with prostitutes, often walking hand in hand in restaurants, shopping centers, in the streets and at the beach because of the bar fine takeout system.

By legalizing brothels and putting it all in doors it would improve Thailands image.

"By legalizing brothels and putting it all in doors it would improve Thailands image."

How many brothels would be required? Where would they be sighted. Would they have a sign saying "SHORT TIME ONLY?" How long would the queues be, and would they be designated for such use, cordoned off on the sidewalk?

On 6/20/2025 at 12:02 PM, Dan O said:

Maybe the problem isnt the prostitutes but the activities of the mongers and how they act in public places..

Stay away fromPattaya, Patong\Phuket and Soi Cowboy and Nana and thats 80% solved. There will always be prostitution throughout the country but not so in your face without mongers acting the part

What's a monger

There is no need to legalize brothels in Thailand, there are so many operating without problems thanks to the "brown envelope system"!:post-4641-1156694572:

How do they cause trouble, and just what is wrong with having sex, it's a business transaction between adults...you seem to have a very high moral standing.

I think you are confused.

A sexpat is a full time monger.

We don’t come him on vacation, we live here and usually marry prostitutes.

that may be true of your character and many others located here but is not exclusive to you, or them. There is a whole variety of levels of sexpat and mongers out there. You get to choose which one people think you fit into

Are you living in Thailand and in a relationship with a Thai woman?

If so I would class you as a sexpat.

If you do not live here but when on holiday here you have sex with one or more Thai women that would make you a sex tourist.

If you come on holidays with your non Thai wife or girlfriend and don’t touch the local women you are just a tourist.

....  Classic Malcy provocation...  calling anyone in a normal relationship with a Thai here a 'sexpat'...

To paraphrase Steve Pinker: This question is so bad, it isn't even wrong.
