My mate from Oz is in town.

Sat on soi Buakhou, drinking a few beers, watching the world go by.

Saw a ute (pick up) 8kg mangosteen for 100 baht, cheap.

It's always hit and miss with mangosteen, lots of rocks in amongst the display, I prefer to pick my own.

I got lucky, not too many uneatable in my 8kg 👍

I'm a big fruit and vege eater, God's food. 🙏

Let me know what you see.

BTW, all you grumpy bums, please eat 3 to 5 servings of fruit every day, you'll find life so much more enjoyable and you'll live longer.

Oh yeah, HAPPINESS, is an important ingredient to living a longer life.

Take care out there 🥗

Yes, how lucky are we to be living close to the best fruit and veg market on the planet.

I've noticed, recently the occasional sign at different stalls, not to eat the fruit, the Russians have been helping themselves. 😂

I don't usually buy from the back of trucks but thought it was a great offer 8kg, 100 baht.

trying one grape or a segment already opened makes sense, but yes I've seen that sign too

Looking for the cheapest fruit? If you are on a budget, I have seen some shelves in Big-C where they sell fruit & other perishables at a deep discount. I think these may need to be thrown out in a day or two, but they look good to eat same day.

The trucks on Jomtien Beach Road have some good prices and I've been happy with the quality, except the mangosteens. I've had terrible luck with those.

Also in Naklua. Many food trucks with good prices.

They are coming from the neighboring provinces usually.

I picked up some local durian for 45 baht per kg yesterday.

45??  Is this the price while the durian is still in the weighty shell? I pay 160-200 of the fully shelled price. This is more than 400 for the durian edible parts. Where did you see that price?

Yeah, fruit does have a lot of nutrients.

But fruit appears to have been the main culprit in my weight gain, so I'm going back to Keto and cutting down drastically on fruit.

Even the UK Diabetes Association is pushing 5 servings a day.

But I just read that our ancestors took in way less fructose daily.

So if 5 servings a day are not causing you to get fat, God bless you and keep going for it.

Fruit.... You can eat as much as you like.

Just cut out the other processed sugars There is sugar in everything we eat these days, this is the problem.

You're not fat and you eat unlimited fruit? God bless you. I do enjoy fruit and it does have a lot of nutrients.

I'm not eating a lot of sugar. The main thing I did was added a lot of fruit.

It doesn't work for me at all. I wonder if some people's bodies process fruit better than others. All that fructose does need to go through the liver.

Go for it, man. Watermelon is the best.

Watch out for cheap Chinese imports, soaked in chemicals to keep it fresher and grown & sprayed with growth boosters and pesticides banned in advanced countries because of the carcinogens.  ..... be careful out there. I should also mention all the illegal dope grown in California USA is sprayed with banned Chinese pesticides. There is a you tube video where the cops are invading illegal plantations & keep finding these cannisters with Chinese labels. They had them translated, so now you know. They wouldn't use those banned Chinese carcogenic pesticides in Thailand ..would they ???? ....would they ??? what's it doing to your health ???

And Thai fruit? Because all of those are typical European fruits.

I buy from the market early morning for the best choice. I don’t care about the price. The only place I’ve seen very expensive ( for Thailand) fruit is Central Festival.  So much fruit isn’t good for you !!!! It’s full of sugar !!! Eat only as a dessert after meals to avoid a blood sugar  spike .Eat a balanced diet.

I never support the fruit trucks, too many, and they make too much noise, we get loads down our soi in the afternoon, shattering the peace and quiet

Ratanakorn market is perfect

Ha, ha, you're off topic

BTW, cut back on your alcohol if you are worried about sugar.

If you didn't eat all the processed foods your sugar levels would be fine.

Don't blame the fruit

I was purely talking about fruits available here low in sugar.

The best prices and quality for fruits and vegetables you can get are from the back of trucks that the farmers themselves use to sell their fruit without a middleman. A year ago I bought 4 nice sized watermelons that were fantastic from the back of a truck for 100 Baht. Not all my deals were that good, but everything I have bought has been right from the fields and tasted great. Whenever I am driving around and see a truck selling something I always check it out, and if it is a item I eat, I buy it. And I have never been disappointed.
