A 57-year-old man was brutally beaten to death by his nephew and two accomplices after he confronted them about regularly gathering to smoke cannabis at his home. The shocking incident occurred in Charoen Rat Subdistrict, Mae Chai District, Phayao Province.

Police confirmed that the victim, Mr. Sombat, died at the scene following a violent assault with a large bamboo stick, nearly two metres long. His 25-year-old nephew, Mr. Krisadaphon, reportedly attacked him with the help of two friends, Mr. Narachai 21 and Mr. Nantiphong 22.

According to investigators, a heated argument broke out between Mr. Sombat and his nephew after the older man criticised him for repeatedly bringing friends over to use cannabis at the house. Enraged by the reprimand, Mr. Krisadaphon allegedly incited his two friends to join him in attacking his uncle.

The trio fled the scene after the assault, seeking refuge in a nearby village. However, a police investigation team quickly tracked them down and arrested all three suspects.

During questioning, Mr. Krisadaphon reportedly confessed to striking his uncle with the bamboo stick, while admitting his two friends joined in the attack. All three are now facing initial charges of jointly committing an assault resulting in death.

Police have stated that legal proceedings are underway and the suspects will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, with possible further charges as the investigation continues.

My point precisely. You think weed is to blame? These types would do this whether it be regular cigs, alcohol or candy even.

  • But it wasn't cigs or candy...it was weed that iniciated the initial argument that turned into murder.

Why weren't they charged with murder? The nephew incited the other two to help him in the attack.

Yes, but they are stoners. I wonder if they will also use the whataboutery defence?

You miss or ignore the point that it could've been anything. These youths have control issues. The only control issues dope has is an inability to resist the munchies IMHO.

Dated a Thai nurse who worked in Phayao.  I've only driven through a few times.  Asked how it was, expected the normal "pretty.  good nature.  ....."   Nope, she said that place has a massive drinking and drug problem and a few other things I'll let you use your imagination.  I'd wager those kids are doing more than just smoking weed.

Crossed that place off the list.

According to the alleged murderers... Of course they're not going to say we killed him because he wanted us to stop using yaba (or yama or shabu) aka crystal meth.

They don't look  older than 16. The  dope smokers allegedly killed the man. The fact is that they were cannabis users and the argument was over cannabis.

Fair chance you're right but even if they found ya-ba (this would go toward explaining their frenzied behaviour) this would not be mentioned as it doesn't fit the anti-dope narrative.

According to the article. Of course anyone with an ounce of critical thinking might challenge the veracity of the narrative. My first thought was ya-ba not dope.

Actually it's mental illness that has people going to this extreme. These youths are unstable for a reason, likely having no fathers or maybe even mothers involved in their lives to teach them respect for life, or possibly role models who abused and hurt them, teaching them violence is the answer.

A normal thinking person isn't going to attack others because they are denied smoking weed in a house. They could always go outside. This is a lack of restraint and a penchant for control, doing whatever they want without repercussions. Millions smoke weed and don't resort to violence when confronted.

I think it is much simpler than that.

A lot of mother treat their sons as little princes, they are never told "NO" in their entire live.

About losing face also, girls get reprimanded but boys can just do as they like.

I think the (loving) mothers create these dangerous kids who never become men mentally.

A classic post from someone that has absolutely zero comprehension of what they're talking about. Dope has been smoked billions of times (obviously an underestimate). Show us some data that links dope to violence.

That's also another reason. Spoiled boys end up as narcissist adults. It's either abuse and neglect or the golden child that's let out into the world to wreak havoc on others. The boys here are looked at as better than the girls, although it's the girls that are a lot more likely to do better in school.  Buddhism has them thinking they'll be reincarnated as boys, which starts that thinking. Absent parents or abusive and neglective ones are also to blame.

Please explain your rationale (if you have any that is)

I'm sure many on this forum are going to insist that weed is evil and weed causes people to do horrific things, and that couldn't be further from the truth. Weed may strip one of ambition, and weed may make people lazy and lethargic, but it certainly doesn't make people violent. If anything the opposite is the case, these guys are just psychopathic super freaks, and whether straight or stoned they had a propensity toward violence, they were sorry, dark souls, with absolutely no emotional development, nor good parenting, and sooner or later they were bound to act in a tragic manner.
