I am not sure bags are checked if in transit, technically youre not in the country, just passing through

Bags in transit usually time sensitive from one aircraft to another. Would be unlucky if they were caught that way.

Yeah I don't know why any couple would be suspicious of someone offering them a free holiday in exchange for transporting a suitcase. Why on earth would something like that arouse suspicion?

And there’s probably another couple packing their bags head home - exporting!

How many times have you (and you, and also you over there) been checked by customs when arriving in Thailand? Very, very seldom. Those big catches usually happen when someone gives customs some kind of hint - for whatever reason.

PS: didn't know that transit through Suvarnabhumi to Samui with entering Thailand there was possible...

Samui airport is a monopoly of Bangkok Airways. Among other airports it flies between Survanabhumi and Samui.

Once caught, this is a very common, desperate attempt to claim innocence. Of course the police has already heard it many times, it helps to save face, maybe?

Why risk losing it or allowing other departments get their paws on it.

It is now wrapped up safely in the arms of its new owners. 🙂

All inclusive and B200000 Wow.

It'll be more inclusive than they thought. The excursions will include courts and Thai jails, accommodation will also be for quite a long time. Might even involve seeing target shooting...

Hm, All luggages are checked, there is nobody going true without,...  (Except Diplomats) (Now you are thinking the same as many people.) !?!?

Not necessarily true.

They claimed they had been offered a free holiday to Koh Samui, including flights, accommodation, food and excursions, by a fellow Brazilian man, in exchange for bringing a suitcase into Thailand. According to the suspects, they were told someone would collect the bag upon their arrival, and they would receive 35,000 Brazilian reais (approximately 200,000 baht) as payment.

Another unsuspecting drug mule caught.

200000THB(35000BRL), may equal to their average 1 year income.

But certainly not worth risking own lifelong freedom for...

I mean a few days ago it was a Heroin bust at Thailand. Now a Cocaine bust.  I guess they like eating rice soup.

Now there going to be staying at our luxurious Bangkok Hilton for the next 20 years,,,bye bye.

My guess is never in the history of the judicial system worldwide, has that excuse ever worked.

7 kilograms of cocaine concealed in their luggage. The seized narcotics have an estimated street value of over 20 million baht.

Aren't prices terrible nowadays!

More Runs.

Enjoy the fish head soup, AC, soft sheets on your bunk beds, clean water and access to all your meds.

Such a waste, such good looking people.

A shame when it happens to good looking ones.

Tip offs are rampant in these cases, no doubt. But they can also have dogs alerting to bags, they can put dogs on the travelators as they're being moved, and they have people looking at scanning cameras for suspicious bags. Those airport shows show them catching some bags that way. Though, those shows obviously aren't going to own up to tip offs.

Blimey, all that AND 200,000 baht ..... "that's a great deal"  said the Brazillian man and with very little risk involved or so he was told !!

If only he had researched the consequences of "smuggling" drugs in or out of Thailand.

At least the free holiday part was sort of true, as is the accommodation and food, however the excursions and payment of 200,000 baht ... not so much.

Some people will just never learn !

don't scan luggage when it has just come off the plane as far as I'm aware ,

Looks like you have been caught unaware.

Imagine the amount of young people and families they were going to destroy. !!

Greed.  And stupidity.  !

lock and throw away the key.

The airports and countries share data on suspicious cases and contents. I got stopped arriving into London from Thailand. Customs were on me like a rash as my passport would not work in the e-gates. Went to counter and customs were there in seconds. Full search of cases and a million repeated questions over the next hour. They wouldn't say if they were tipped off by Bangkok but that is the only way they could have blocked my entry at e-gates. I even saw scan copies of my 2 bags on their monitors (showed orange for organic matter - same as some narcotics). My "crime"? Transporting the ashes, in an urn, of a dead and cremated acquaintance for his family (I had all paperwork including death certificate etc).  They are very hot onto information sharing so no surprise these two Brazilians got caught after so many flights (and likely bag scans).
