I guess if someone has little money is totally into being depressed and is impotent, they would move from Thailand to Kansas.

He can still spend 3 months or more each year in Thailand.

If you're in a remote place, you need to find ways to keep yourself occupied indoors.

And hopefully have a good gf/wife because that's all you got out there.

Can't think of a reason to return, other than a 1 yr holiday.   Mid country living, on the plains, flat, boring, doesn't appeal to me at all.

Maybe if BEVs from CN were available and a better charging network.   But without those 2, I wouldn't even consider returning.

Only one interesting, would be Flagler, but still 2 hours from the Rockies.  Actually not bad for a base to live, but still need BEV from CN & CS network.

Could put one of those capsule or knock down homes on a plot of land, for cheap, and play that nomadic traveler ... hmm

Get sick (if emergency) & file bankruptcy, as too far from my niece, who is head of a hospital in Philly 😎

Already have two houses and land here.  Big C and Makro 1/2 hour away.  Property taxes were less than $1.00.  Why?

I'm in Colorado now until the end of August. Once you get a few miles east of the mountains it's flat, dry, desolate plains for hundreds of miles and all the way into Kansas and beyond. This is extremely undesirable land if you ask me but people still keep build in Colorado since there's work to be had.

To be fair though most of Thailand is boring, flat desolate rice fields so maybe Kansas isn't that bad. You'd be really isolated though and reliant on cooking food bought on your weekly trip to the nearest city.  Freezing cold in the winters too and strong winds that can blow you over on foot.

So much drama in your response. First of all, no one will offer you free car, house and money. You are not required to eat out in restaurants.

What I do dislike about paying for take out using a credit card, you are asked about tipping in the transaction. So, I pay cash for meals.

I imagine you don't really have enough cash to return. This happens to those who sold out RE before leaving the US. There are many like you on this forum who bad mouth the US out of jealousy.

Your imagination has gotten the better of you. I left the U.S. 34 years ago. I never had any thoughts of returning, both because of the growing racism and bigotry in the US, and the decline of personal freedoms.

And of course, no one is going to give away free houses and cars... at least, not in the U.S.  Why would you even respond to that?

I'm guessing they detained illegal aliens? You know who else detains illegal aliens and puts them into crowded cages? that's right, Thailand and why shouldn't they? We're all expected to follow the laws and it's not asking too much.

In the United States, even undocumented immigrants are protected by the Constitution. They have the right to Due Process under the Law.

That is NOT being given to them.
The U.S. Constitution, our single most important document meant to 'guarantee' our rights is being trampled by masked gunmen dragging people out of hospitals, schools, and homes without DUE PROCESS and caged under conditions that, in the U.S., are considered Animal Abuse.

Well then do what Thailand does. They tell you, you can get on the first plane back home or go to court, however if you do that and you lose the case you spend time in jail. Pretty sure you're kept in jail (or. concentration camps as  you call them) until your court date.

What the US does is the stupidest possible thing, which is give every single person a court date and let them free and let them appear on their own terms. If they refuse to appear then they're still illegal and they've lost nothing and the US has wasted time and resources.

see how stupid that is? this needs to be ended already.

A few mid-western states are giving free lands in rural towns to build homes and stay in the US. Anybody planning to go back to the US with their social security? Property taxes are "alleged" to be in "hundreds" only.  And in rural Kansas one can build a house for $125K. Walmart and hospitals are within 30 minutes drive.

125k for a house there is the right price. Definitely wouldnt pay that much for a house in thailand

Perhaps it's different where you're from, but in the United States, everyone is guaranteed protection under the Constitution.

As for the question of Jails or concentration camps, we never had them in America before, not even during the Japanese Internment.

What do YOU call this cage if not a concentration camp? Might be fine for other countries. Not fine in America. Our laws do not even permit farm animals to be treated like this.

That's about the going price for a well built, comfy, detached house in semi rural TH.

Ours, all in, value knocking on ฿3M, if buying land today, and only 130m² + Greenhouse on half rai.  Contracted an built almost 4 yrs ago. for ฿2M, all in.  One lot, bought 10 yrs ago.  Can't see it being less than ($125k) ฿4M now.

Local new houses are in the ฿3M range, but not the best build, and on 1/4 rai, if that.  That's semi rural.

yeah that's right. Homes in housing project in Chiang Mai are often in the 3-4m baht range. It's a rip off for me personally because the houses are in those contested projects and have no privacy. A 3-4mb self build on a nice piece of land would be pretty nice though.
