Nah. It's about natural gas reserves on or near Koh Kood.

The agreement was already agreed and inked. The area is offshore and is called the Overlapping Claims Area or OCA.

The only major dispute was the governance of the island, which was brought again back to the fore by the anti-Thaksin brigade claiming Thaksin said the Khmers could govern it back in the original agreement from 2001.

10,000 people to be employed there from both Thailand and Cambodia if it was ever to go ahead, so loads of money to be made byy everybody.

This will no doubt put a kybosh on the whole thing now.

That would not surprise me at all.

The most stupid thing about this Thai government is to withdraw Thai and Cambodian ambassadors, why close all communication channels and if you do it why do you want war with Cambodia to stay in power???

It seems like they're trying to divert attention from the problems the government is facing and the resignation of the Prime Minister.

Cooler heads prevail!

A international authority must demand a end to all hostilities ,declare a ceasefire.

 Grievances can be disputed Diplomatically.

Prayuth was better.

With Cambodia's current arsenal, there isn't much to fear. However, the border areas should be cautious. It only becomes truly troublesome if third parties get involved. It's also a negative development for tourism.

So when the RTAF goes  into action, it uses F16s, not Gripens.

Gripens are based is Surat Thani. Bit of a flying distance to where the action is. F16s are close by.

UPDATE
Thai Forces Destroy Two Cambodian Tanks in Escalating Border Clashes

Thai military forces engaged and destroyed two Cambodian tanks in a fierce exchange of fire near the historic Ta Muen Thom temple in Surin province.

The confrontation began when Cambodian forces reportedly launched an offensive strike, firing into Thai positions in the Panom Dong Rak district, igniting a forest fire in the process. In response, the Royal Thai Army launched a swift counterattack, including the deployment of drones equipped with bombs to target enemy positions.

According to an official statement posted by the 2nd Army Region on Facebook, at 14:32, Cambodian mortar rounds sparked a blaze in the forested area. Thai forces retaliated with drone strikes aimed at neutralising the threat.

Subsequently, at 14:41, Thai troops engaged in anti-armour operations on the Sattasom front, successfully destroying two Cambodian tanks.

“This act of self-defence was carried out in response to unprovoked aggression, in accordance with military protocols to protect national sovereignty and civilian lives,” the 2nd Army Region’s statement read.

The situation has triggered fear and panic among local residents, with artillery fire reportedly heard across the region. Evacuations are underway in several communities in Sisaket province, as authorities urge civilians to stay clear of the conflict zones.

I gotta say I love Saab. What a sad day when they went bankrupt and those Chinese did not come through to save them.

Not the same company. SAAB the car maker is gone. SAAB the airplane maker is thriving.

Well obviously, but formerly part of the same group.

It's a triangle. Sangkha to Surin town. Surin to Prasat. Prasat to Sangkha.

So yes, really.

Driven all three roads.

So you don't take the number 24 highway? Go rural road?

Prasat to Sangkha is the main highway to Ubon. The road from Sangkha to Surin is pretty good after the upgrades over the last few years, but it is a different road.

I don't drive to Prasat to get to Surin from Sangkha - that would add a lot of driving time. The 'rural road' from Sangkha is the 2077, pretty well a dual carriageway all the way after Loet Arun, through Lamduan and takes about 50 minutes for the drive.

Good to know. I have an old friend living there and was wondering.

No worries. Drifting a bit off topic though.

Back on topic the school near the village of Chokchai just out side amphur Sangkha has been hit as has the rual hospital at Ban Dom.

Not exactly prime military targets.

From the information I have the place is pretty well deserted now so hopefully nobody was injured.

The granddaughters were sent home from school around lunchtime when they started hearing gunfire.

Too close for comfort. Something young girls shouldn't have to experience.

Having said that the wife told me she went through a similar thing many years ago when it got a bit antsy on the border.

Am I wrong or is this the Thai Army flexing their muscles to justify their existence, and the enormous amounts of money that they suck from the treasury every year?

On another note have they proven that the Sisaket bombing was done by Cambodian? If so, this would seem like a major escalation.

You are completely wrong.

I have followed the Thai media closely.

This is an unprovoked aggression from Cambodia.  Thailand is only defending herself against this aggressor.

Khmer friends from Surin tell me the same: the Khmer are attacking Thailand.

Thai soldiers need all support they can get.

NB I don't have access to Cambodian media

Shame they couldn't both blow the bejesus out of the stupid temple, then they wouldn't have anything to fight over.

Do you really think they fight about a temple?

That's what has been reported in the media. What do you think the real reason is?
