Well first up if you are married then you may/would be made to use extension based on marriage.

If not married you could consider extension based on support of Thai child

Which is better/easier, an extension based on marriage, or an extention based on support of a Thai child?

If not married to a Thai, you could get an extension based on a Thai child without having to season the money for 2 months.

If married to a Thai, they will force you to use the marriage-based option, requiring the 2 mo money-seasoning.

You never mentioned that if the child wasn't born in wedlock, then the 'Father' would have to have gained parental rights and the child must live with him to apply for such an extension.

True - there are additional "hoops" for based on a Thai-child, depending on the situation.  It is not clear what the OP's situation is - never married, divorced, etc.
