Funny old world.  Between threads about war & the struggling economy, we get a boring vlogger talking about British food. 🤷‍♂️

  • All this food looks both unhealthy and disgusting.   British simply can't live off the land and eat Thai food.   The woman doing the expose is clueless as to how unappetizing it al

  • Trouble with all you foreigners is that you wouldn't know decent food if it poked you in the eye,    Lets start with this Great British culinary classic,

I guess you know you're getting a little old when you can't relate to the concept of an adolescent Tik Tok creator getting attention from incredibly bored people all over the world. For doing next to nothing.

Has the world become such a boring place, have people become so disenchanted with their lifestyles, that watching an adolescent creating a meal becomes entertainment and somehow influential?

Does anybody care to explain this to me? Because I just find it unbelievably silly and trite.

Then again I feel that way about the entire Tik Tok platform. I find it quite obnoxious.

Just toss it in some batter and then deep fry in dirty oil

Did you witness its being prepared and in what it was cooked?   Didn't think so.

Roasties look good. Meat looks dry. That seems to be a problem with any pub roast as the meat just sits under heat lamps all day.

In 17 years I have never craved a Sunday roast here, in fact I couldn't finish one now so it would be a complete waste, unless I could order a child's portion.

I do enjoy the occasional fish and chips and other farang dishes when I am away from home.

I don't have a microwave or oven.

I regularly make a large Ragu from locally available ingredients with herbs and spices added and freeze it for later use and buy Sausages online every now and then.

Otherwise it's Thai style for me...

This stuff doesn't look very inviting. Looks more than fulfilling all those prejudices about British Food.

Also it gave a special picture of those Brits coming to Thailand and missing bad food.

What will come next?

Scots craving for Haggis?🤩

Said by someone who's almost certainly never eaten haggis, and has no clue how good it is.

Possibly people who have been here years and like what they were used to from time to time or a lot of the time.

Ever seen Indians or Chinese in London eating jellied eels or pie and mash.?

Pie and mash - yes.

Jellied eels, not so much.

Well, from Shannon to Edinburgh it's not far. I did this trip maybe a hundred times or more.

And Haggis is something you can't avoid forever.

Next time better research results please

Phad Thai. That's not really even Thai food.

Imagine you'd take the roast over all Thai food. That was precisely my point.

Cholesterol thru the roof, onset diabetes 👍🤷

One thing. Diabetes is actually far more common in Thailand because white rice is really high on the glycemic index.

Admittedly I greatly prefer a Massaman or a green curry over a phad Thai. With somtam as a starter. Doesn't mean I didn't pick up black pudding from Yorkies in Jomtien when we were near, before it closed, for cooking at home in Bangkok.

Homesickness strikes on Sundays without a roast, but one British expat in Thailand has found solace in a surprising locale. Julia, a TikTok creator known as @awaywithjuliaa, has captured UK expats' hearts with a viral video showcasing her quest for authentic British fare abroad.

Living in Thailand hasn't dulled Julia's cravings for an English roast. In her latest TikTok adventure, she invites viewers to join her pursuit of the perfect Sunday dinner, hoping to compare it to those back home in the UK.

Setting the scene from a quaint restaurant with outdoor seating, Julia’s enthusiasm is contagious. "I’m so excited; we’ve ordered loads of food. The only reason I came here is because I’m missing England so much," she shares.

Her journey starts with a classic: fish and chunky chips, accompanied by Heinz gourmet malt vinegar. “The first dish has arrived; look at that,” she exclaims, praising the flavourful, golden chunks.

The culinary tour continues with an impressive Toad in the Hole, featuring a giant Yorkshire pudding packed with mashed potato, peas, onions, and sausages. “Wow, that looks unreal. Julia remarks, "I got the gravy, yum," as she marvels at the generous portions of the dish.

The highlight is yet another oversized Yorkshire pudding, this time filled with roast chicken, crispy roast potatoes, carrots, and cauliflower, prompting Julia to declare, “Thailand does it better than England.”

Her video, cheekily captioned, highlights the allure of Thai roasts, claiming they’re “10X better and cheaper.” With over 57,000 views and 100 comments, the clip resonates with many, including expats long deprived of their beloved Sunday rituals.

Viewers expressed their envy and anticipation. “Food looks banging for the price; have fun,” one enthused commenter noted. Another chimed in eagerly, “I’m coming in August; I can’t wait!”

Julia's culinary journey has gained significant attention on TikTok, showcasing a unique blend of cultures. For British expats, the promise of enjoying their homeland's classics in an unexpected setting offers a comforting taste of home.

Foodies intrigued by Julia's adventure might just find themselves joining the pilgrimage to Thailand, eager to sample roasts with a refreshing twist that promise both nostalgia and delight.

That pretentions  woman lost my interest when she prattled on about  "gourmet" malt vinegar,

If you are really that desperate for English food you can get all the ingredients you need in supermarkets that specialise in that stuff or online and cook it yourself at home in your own oven, exactly to suit yourself.

You can even order cooked food online and have it delivered.

Nonsense, your comments are subjective, that does not make the food featured objectively "sh!te"

Jools was one of the few places where you could get the British gem of Toad in the Hole. Served with baked beans or Onions and gravy.

"Served with baked beans or Onions and gravy"...

and corned beef!

I was waiting for balloon belly expat guys in string vests doing an illegal animal hunt in protected land and the Thais chasing them down the road knocking their heads in.

DAMN.

Around the back of the original Villa in Bangkok, soi 33 is it?, there are at least four places doing a good Sunday roast, all competing.

The Royal Oak, O'Shea's (both the same owner, not competing) and The Robin Hood.  Which are the, "at least, others"?

Try Sukhumvit Soi 33/1 in Bangkok, where the Royal Oak is the standout for an excellent Sunday roast.

Exactly the same 'standout' roast is served at O'Shea's.
