New Passport, how to change drivers license ?

Featured Replies

When you get a new passport you should get a new drivers license with the new passport number. What documents do you need to do this?

Doctors certificate, residence certificate from immigration  or just copies of drivers license and passport?

How to Update Your Thai Driving Licence

You’ll need to visit your local Department of Land Transport (DLT) office with:

1.  New UK passport

2.  Old Thai driving licence

3.  Photocopies of both passports (old and new)

4.  Proof of address in Thailand (e.g. TM30, yellow house book, or certified letter from immigration)

5.  Passport-sized photos (some offices still require them)

6.  Application fee (usually around 105–205 baht per licence)

7. Doctors certificate (I think)

They’ll issue a replacement licence with your new passport number. You don’t need to retake any tests.

No dire need to do this....i don't think mant people bother!!!

Have now changed my passport number in my drivers license in Banglamung, Pattaya.

Old and new passport was needed.

copies of both passport, including visa in new passport

Residence certificate from immigration, copy is ok for second drivers license.

Original and copies of drivers license, both sides.

Doctors certificate and photos not needed.

If you have two drivers licenses you need a full set of copies for each drivers license.

The total cost for two licenses was 110Baht and the whole process took 45 minutes.

Same procedure if you need to change the address on your drivers license.

I haven't done it because my new passport has my old passport number entered on the first page, but yes, that maybe a bit complicated on a traffic stop............🤭

If you use the drivers license as identification, like in the bank or other places, they will usually check that the passport number on the drivers license is the same as registered with them. I also assume it's not legal to have incorrect information on a government document like the drivers license. It's a pain but you only have to do it every 5-10 years.

I just did this recently but waited for the licenses to run out rather than have to repeat it. Police have seen licences several times in the interim and was never an issue.
