A Swedish man wanted by INTERPOL for his involvement in a major drug trafficking network has been arrested in Chonburi, where he had been living in hiding in an upmarket villa.

The 37-year-old suspect, known by the alias “Toby,” was apprehended by officers from Immigration Division 3 following an extensive undercover operation. Police confirmed he was the subject of a Red Notice issued by INTERPOL at the request of Swedish authorities, who seek his extradition on serious drug-related charges.

According to Pol. Maj. Gen. Chairit Anurak, Commander of Immigration Division 3, the operation was part of an intensified crackdown on transnational criminals living illegally in Thailand. The arrest took place on 4 August at around 16:30, following weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering. Officers from the Eastern Investigation Unit, led by Pol. Col. Jirapong Rujiradamrongchai and Pol. Lt. Col. Ithithorn Prasertsak, had traced the fugitive to an exclusive residential estate in Bang Lamung.

Toby is accused of serving as a global moderator for a darknet drug marketplace called “Archetyp”, a platform facilitating the illegal sale of narcotics through encrypted private chat rooms. The platform primarily catered to clients in Scandinavia but extended its reach across Europe. Swedish authorities have labelled him a major figure in a sophisticated international trafficking network.

“This individual poses a significant threat to public safety and is considered a high-value target by European law enforcement,” said Pol. Maj. Gen. Chairit. “His online activities played a central role in coordinating drug sales across borders.”

The arrest comes under the direction of Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumas Boonyalak, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau and was part of a broader government-mandated initiative to root out foreign fugitives and safeguard national security. The Commissioner stressed that such operations are essential not only for domestic safety but also to protect Thailand’s international reputation as a country that upholds the rule of law.

Toby is now being held in custody while extradition proceedings are initiated in cooperation with Swedish authorities.
