Bangkok Outer Ring Road

Featured Replies

Hi.

Does anyone know if Highway 9, the outer ring-road, Thanon Kanchanapisek - the southern part between Bangphli (intersection with highway 34 Bang-na to Trat highway) to the intersection with Highway 35 which goes to Paktho, is now open?

On my maps, it shows as an Expressway Stage 4 'project' road. But my map is 2 years old.

I live in Ratchaburi, and on the map this looks like a good (alternative to using the expressway) route is for getting to and from the Suvanaphum airport?

I need to make some airport trips, so any advice or knowledge would be appreciated.

I have not seen any announcement of it being opened yet but if anyone knows for sure, or the schedule, please advise.

No, the Eastern ring road terminates at the Bang Na Trat expressway intersection if you are travelling from the North. If coming from Rachaburi on Hwy 35 you will need drive straight ahead to Dao Khanong then up and right to the tollway, up the expressway (ha! ha!) and over Rama 9 bridge. You can then see that the new bridge (downstream to the right) has traffic on it but I assume that this is local traffic because the Southern extension to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) is incomplete. If you continue and follow the signs to Bang Na you should have an opportunity to exit the expressway and go left onto the ORR so that you can head North. Alternatively just follow the myriad of signs for Suvanaphumi Airport.
