Petchaburi, Dept. Land Transport, 5 year driver's license.

Featured Replies

I've had two five year licenses first from the DLT at Pran Buri and then from Petchaburi. I prefer Petchaburi.  I may be late getting renewal on my birthday.  I'm told you have up to one year to renew your license.  If expired you can get a license for six years.  Five years ago I got a medical certificate stating that I did not abuse drugs and was in relatively good health.  At the DLT I was told this was not needed.  I will be 76 years old, good eyesight, no medical condition such as epilepsy, narcolepsy, etc.; and good reflexes.  Anyone here having used the DLT in Petchaburi in recent months is welcome to comment.  I recall a high flight of stairs that 'proves' your leg muscles are OK.

I just prepare the renewal of my two DL at Pranburi. For Documents you need following

-Original and Copy of Passport and valid Visa/Extension or Pink ID Card both side copy

-Medical Certificate, 1 x Original and Copy

-CoR from Immigration (1 x original and 1 Copy) or yellow Housebook, 2 Copies

-QR Code that you have watched the Videos and answered the Questions

-Appointment booking

Thank you for your reply.

I now prefer Petchaburi after my experience five years ago.  Those links are unknown to me.  Appointments at Pran Buri is news to me.

But that's the new normal, walk in DL extensions are a a thing of the past and in these days you need to watch the online Videos and book an appointment.

Sounds like the op needs to visit his preferred DLT to make a booking and get the current list of requirements including instructions about the online video to watch and retain proof of passing the questions.

Things have changed somewhat in the last 5 years, in my case at Ayutthaya the process is now very organised and orderly.

Still have to do the physical tests but have to watch a short video prior to speed you through the process ( 1 lady commands a batch of 5 or 6 people through the tests and signs the paperwork, impressive).

The requirements i believe stay the same except the additional online video test.

My birthday is 8 September.   I was hoping my neighbor, who is now in Germany, would help me.  I need to wait for him to return.  I'll get my proof of residence from HHIO (Hua Hin Immigration Office).  So I'll watch the video at home and answer questions.  Then I'll book an appointment and once confirmed I'll go to HHIO the day prior.  Thank you both for educating me to the new procedure.

Not true, many DLT still have walk in driving license renewal. Just go to your local DLT and try.

That is a good 30 minute drive for me.  I'll look for a phone numbers first.

I have not seen any DLT topics for almost a year here on ASEAN NOW.

Last year November, I watched the movie at home and got the QR Code on my mobile.

Organized all the documents ( CoR, medical, copies of passport pages) and walked in at DLT Cha Am. out again after 20 minutes with new license.

Yes, I had the same experience 2 months ago, and with my Thai girl friend 1 week ago, also at the same agency.
Quick and easy and total Thb 505, for a 5-year extension, or almost 6 years if you visit DLT one or more days after your birthday.

Keep in mind the colour blindness test, and the reaction test, (throttle and brake).

Nonsense

I renewed a 2 year car license to a five year in Cha am last month and no appointment was necessary.

Neither do you need to watch any video, I never and neither was I asked if I had.

I needed Passport, medical certificate, certificate of residence and they done all the copies.

Done the brake test and colour light test and that was it.

So DLT Praburi is lying to me? Here the List of Requirements I got for my renewal of my 5 year Driver Licenses

Where is the DLT in Cha-Am located.  Street address and what buildings or government offices is it near.  Any Google Maps URL?

To clarify, it's not in Cha-am Beach but is on the main road prior to where the road veers off to the left to head towards Cha-Am Beach town area. It's located a couple hundred meters down a side road opposite the Caltex gas station on Petchkasem Rd, before the Swiss Sheep Farm area.

Update on Petchaburi DLT.  It seems they are requiring DL renewals be done in the province where you live.  I am a few miles south of Hua Hin.  I did the video and got the QR code.  However, when attempting to make an appt. the popup says Unknown ID.  Going Thursday to check on the NEW DLT in Hua Hin and Bluport to get my proof of address (CoR).  Yes, changes in the last five years.

Have done my renewals in Pranburi this morning. Video Test done in advance and booked online Appointment. All very smooth and not even 1.5 hours and I got my two new Licenses and was out again. Staff very helpful and friendly.
