Police at Bang Kaeo Police Station received a report of a man injured after being splashed with acid inside a shopping mall in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province. Investigations led officers, along with rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, to the scene in the mall’s restroom where they found Mr. Silapat, 21, from Nakhon Sawan province, sitting on the floor with severe burns and blistering on his arms, legs and other parts of his body.

Rescue teams immediately requested advanced medical support from Chularat Suvarnabhumi Hospital, administering first aid before transferring Mr. Silapat to hospital.

Mr. Silapat reported that the attacker was his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend, Ms. Nicha, who unexpectedly approached him while he was working normally stocking shelves in the mall. Without warning, she threw acid at him before fleeing the premises.

This was not the first incident involving the couple. Earlier in June, Ms. Nicha had reportedly vandalised Mr. Silapat’s motorcycle, a case currently under mediation with the police. The recent acid attack marks a severe escalation.

Colleagues and supervisors confirmed that Mr. Silapat was performing his usual duties when the ex-girlfriend suddenly confronted him, threw the acid and fled. The victim screamed for help and was quickly assisted to the restroom to rinse the acid from his skin before emergency services were contacted.

Police gathered evidence from the scene and are seeking to apprehend the ex-girlfriend to proceed with legal action.

Interestingly enough, statistics are kept on acid attacks worldwide. Yeah, it really is a thing.

Acid attack capital of the world is (drum-roll please).....The United Kingdom , followed by India and Bangladesh.  On a per capita basis, the UK is in a class of its own.

Thailand is way down the list with surprisingly enough, 10 attacks annually. :coffee1:

The UK is currently importing a colourful range of cultures, so expect it to top more shameful leagues.

The UK has a reporting level that is simply incomparable to India and Bangladesh.

From the same source: "Colombia has approximately 100 recorded attacks a year and with a population of around 48 million this makes attacks in Colombia one of the highest per capita."

Well, he has obviously been cheating on her and that is unacceptable........I feel she may well be justified in taking violent action, but NOT throwing acid.

Any acid/chemical attack has to premeditated and regardless of the damage done it should carry a life sentence.

Should rioters that throw tear gas get life in prison?

How is could you show that was premeditated?

You were the one that said “…any chemical attack has to be premeditated…”

How could it not be?

So how about protestors using pepper spray?

Chemical attack....not response.....

Pepper spray, which is illegal to purchase, own, carry and used to attack someone....yes

Pepper spray, like acid and tear gas. is legal to purchase, own and carry.

It is illegal to attack anyone with anything.

So protestors that spray people with pepper spray should get life in prison, is that your position?

It's a response to an attack.

True.....not sure how that is relevant?

Absolutely....it is a premeditated attack with a chemical weapon.

If you don't have these kinds of laws you end up.....GOD FORBID.....like America.

Sure

I assumed you meant the police fired tear gas at rioters......that is the 'attack'....albeit premeditated but legal......the rioters were simply returning the police's property.....a response.

This is a truly heinous premeditated attack, meant to cause serious bodily harm, and should be treated as such. I advocate that chemical attacks should be in an entirely separate category with either a mandatory life sentence,  mandatory life spent in a labor camp of some sort, or the death penalty. Why not make this lowlife vermin somehow responsible to society? Or eliminate her, as she appears to do nothing but consume oxygen and give nothing in return.

I wonder just how much of this type of craziness is due to drugs? And no, I don't mean things like paracetamol.

So it would not be an attack, it would be a legal police action.

in any event, it is your position that any protestor(s) that brought and used tear-gas, pepper-spray and or molotov cocktails or whatnot should get life in prison.

Yep.

I disagree, unless they kill someone.

It’s just assault with a deadly weapon, or assault with intent.

Can't kill 'em either.
