In the early hours of today, drama unfolded in a quiet Pattaya apartment on Naklua 19, leaving a French national suffering from a head injury after a domestic dispute spiralled out of control.

At precisely 2.06 am, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit received a distress call reporting an assault with injuries. Swift to respond, local police from Bang Lamung, supported by volunteer rescue personnel, rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found a 37-year-old French man, referred to only as "A," suffering from a noticeable head injury. Rescue workers promptly administered first aid before whisking him off to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The apartment itself was a scene of disarray. Evidence of a struggle was apparent—furniture and personal belongings were scattered and damaged throughout the space. According to witnesses, the incident stemmed from a heated argument between "A" and his Thai girlfriend.

Tensions took a dramatic turn when the girlfriend allegedly sought assistance from her sister and brother-in-law, the latter described as being a large-built foreigner. Before the police could arrive, the girlfriend and her relatives had already left the scene.

Neighbours reported that what began as a verbal spat tragically escalated into violence, culminating in a chaotic confrontation that left "A" injured. Authorities are now piecing together the sequence of events, aiming to identify the instigator and establish legal responsibility.

As the investigation progresses, this incident serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly domestic disagreements can spiral out of hand. It underscores the urgent need for conflict resolution measures and support systems in domestic settings.

Local police continue to explore every angle, speaking to witnesses and examining forensic evidence to unravel the truth behind this unsettling event. With all eyes on the ongoing investigation, the focus remains on ensuring justice prevails in what is turning into a high-profile case in the expat and local communities alike.

Updates will follow as more details emerge, bringing clarity to a night of unexpected turmoil in Pattaya.

Or the German Invasion in WW2.

If you knew anything about the history of the German invasion in WW2, you would know how valiantly the French army fought.

In particular I could refer you to many YouTube videos depicting  the heroic rearguard action fought by the French army in order to buy time for the British to evacuate most of their troops at Dunkirk.

Those French soldiers knew that they were destined for death or capture, but faced it because they knew the Brits were stranded at Dunkirk and needed time to evacuate.

It’s a common myth that the French just easily surrendered, when in fact many nationalities were fighting alongside them in the early days of the invasion. The reason for capitulation was certainly not a lack of courage of any of the nationalities involved. No point to go into the REAL reasons for the stunning German advance here as it’s obviously off topic.

So use YouTube and you will see many historical documentaries setting out the actual facts and eliminating some commonly held myths.

They are actually very interesting.

I’m afraid your attempt at sarcasm has made you look uninformed and a bit silly.

Nah, I've actually been to The Legions HQ in Aubagne several times and have known a few ex-Legionaires rather than you and your Wiki-learning.

For most of the FFL's existence, only foreign nationals were allowed to enlist.  Except for senior officers, even many of the officers would come-up from the ranks.  There were plenty of recruits available, especially after WW2, when the FFL was largely composed of Germans, particularly ex-SS soldiers and who fought in IndoChine.

It wasn't until the 1960s when these had largely died-out but the need in Algeria, that the FFL allowed French, but they had to declare a false nationality to be accepted as recruits.

It wasn't until 2010-2015 that the FFL would officially allow French citizens into the ranks.  Very recent but time of shame for the Legion.

I often suspected that many such men are doing similar things where they came from, where they got a reputation for it (marital conflict). And then they show up in Thailand.

I know 3 ex Legionnaires from my time in Amsterdam, 2 Dutch and 1 French, they all served decades ago.

There were French officers from the start.

Which is why many French nationals claimed Belgian or some other French speaking nationalities when enlisting. And you seem to explicitly say that for the last ten years French nationals have been permitted to enlist, plus you explicitly acknowledge that officers are mostly French nationals.

All in all, your second post contradicts your original statement that only foreigners are permitted in the Foreign Legion and confirm my statement that French persons are permitted to join.

So what exactly are you arguing about?

Perhaps the Frenchman refused to pay the agreed-upon girlfriend fee?

Exactly my thought.

Since it's his GF he thought he was going to get some free rounds, but noooooooooooo !!!

You have to pay for play like everyone else Jaques.

Why would any foreigner argue with a Thai woman? Pack up her stuff, walk her out of the building and call a replacement.  There wouldn't even be a break in continuity.  It would be the same limited conversations in broken Thai/foreign language about the same mundane subjects.
